May was a month of two stories in the investment world.

On the surface, equity markets held steady and the AI boom continued to drive momentum. But look a little deeper and the bond market was flashing some warning signs, with rising yields reflecting real concerns over the Middle East, oil prices, and the direction of interest rates.

Conor Byrne, Head of Private Clients at Fairstone Ireland, walks through what drove markets in May, what the signals mean for investors, and why staying diversified matters more than ever right now.

ETFs are one of the most talked-about investment options in Ireland right now. But 38% exit tax, an eight-year deemed disposal rule and no loss offsetting make the Irish picture more complex than most general investment advice acknowledges.

Our complete 2026 guide covers what has changed, what has not and how to invest in ETFs tax-efficiently. Read it here: https://www.fairstone.ie/blogs/investing-in-etfs-in-ireland-in-2026-the-complete-guide/

If you were automatically enrolled in MyFutureFund at the start of 2026, the opt-out window opens in July. It is worth taking a few minutes to understand your options before then.

The employer match and State top-up make staying in the right decision for most people. But for higher earners comparing MyFutureFund to a personal pension, the tax relief structure is different and the comparison matters.

Swipe through what to consider and get in touch with the Fairstone team if you want to talk through your own situation before the window closes.

Here's something most people don't realise: the average Irish savings account is paying 0.13% interest right now. Inflation is running at 3.6%. That difference is quietly eating away at your money every single year.

Bernard Walsh from our investments team explains why keeping too much in cash could be costing you more than you think and what a smarter setup actually looks like.

Your income is the foundation of everything else in your financial life. And yet most people have no cover in place if illness or injury stops them from working.

State Illness Benefit pays a maximum of €254 per week and most self-employed people on Class S PRSI do not qualify for it at all. Our guide explains how income protection works in Ireland, how the tax relief makes it more affordable than most people expect and what to check when comparing policies. Get in touch with the Fairstone team to review your own position.

If you have received a redundancy payment, the worst thing you can do is wait and decide later.

The tax-free elements need to be calculated correctly. The pension top-up window closes on 31 October. And capital left in a current account is losing value to inflation every month.

Swipe through for the step-by-step framework and get in touch with the Fairstone team if you want to review your own position.

The Standard Fund Threshold, the lifetime limit on tax-relieved pension savings in Ireland, increased to €2.2 million from January 2026, after being frozen at €2 million since 2014.

It will rise by €200,000 per year through to 2029. For anyone with a large pension fund, approaching retirement, or working in a defined benefit scheme, the phased increases create real planning opportunities, particularly around the timing of drawdown and contribution decisions.

We have put together an updated guide covering what has changed, who it affects, and what to consider. Read it here: https://www.fairstone.ie/blogs/standard-fund-threshold-2026-updated-guide/

The Standard Fund Threshold rose to €2.2 million in 2026 and reaches €2.8 million by 2029. Find out what it means for your retirement planning.
