🏠 Ireland’s BER scale changes today.

The old A1-G system is moving to a simplified A0-G scale, meaning new BER certs will no longer use subcategories like A1, B2 or C3.

Existing valid BER certs will still remain valid, but the change is worth knowing about if you’re:

✅ Retrofitting your home
✅ Applying for a green mortgage
✅ Selling or buying a property
✅ Trying to improve your energy rating

Read our guide to see what’s changing and how it could affect you:

🏠 Home insurance costs can add up, but small changes could help cut your premium.

In one Switcher.ie quote example, a household could potentially save around €170 by:

✅ Paying annually instead of monthly
✅ Using a multi-policy discount
✅ Adding an NSAI-approved alarm and other safety measures

Your own savings will depend on your home, cover and insurer — but it’s always worth checking before you renew.

Could your BER rating be adding more to your energy bills than you think?

We looked at how yearly energy costs could vary for a typical Irish home, depending on its BER rating.

🍃 A-rated home: around €430/year
🏠 C-rated home: around €3,227/year

That’s a potential difference of €2,797 a year*

These aren’t exact bills, but they’re based on BER energy usage models and a typical annual energy bill, making them a useful guide to how costs can differ between BER ratings.
