Hi all,

Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty with Meta on an issue with my Facebook profile. As such, I am winding this page down fully, and have had to start a new Facebook profile. I had almost 1,000 followers on this page, and it's really frustrating that I need to do this, but I would really appreciate if you could head over to my new page Cian Carolan Finance and give it a follow and share to spread the word.

Thanks a million,
Cian

Tom taught me everything I know, and he is an A-Player, top of his game.

I made a conscious decision to hire people I’ve worked with, people who are technically stronger than me, and I’m not afraid to admit that.

Tom is an excellent hire 🤝

Meet Tom Flanagan, our new Head of Mortgages, having joined DNG Financial Services earlier this week.

Tom has over 18 years experience in financial services, across Campions Insurance, Aviva, KBC, and more recently AIB Life. Tom holds an Honours Degree in Business Studies, Business/Commerce, holds the QFA designation, and is about to secure the highly sought after CFP designation.

Tom brings a wealth of financial planning, complex mortgage case handling, and team management experience to the team, making Tom a perfect leader for our mortgage business.

Tom’s services were in high-demand, with several Brokerages looking to sign him up, so we are delighted to have secured his services.

Join us in welcoming Tom to DNG Financial Services 🤝

Great to be asked to do this interview in todays Move In Move Up supplement in the Sunday Independent for Irish Independent

I answered common questions first time buyers have, give some key advice to help with first-home purchasing, talk about my own home purchasing experiences, and discuss going from running a busy mortgage team for the last 7 years to now launching DNG Financial Services, the latest part of the expansion of DNG Group, one of Irelands most recognised brands.

Available in print and online.

2023 is done…there were some good points along the way, but many things I’m not so happy about. It was a funny year really, and I can’t say I’m happy with who I was in 2023.

Additionally, I always set myself goals in order to solve all the things I’m not happy about in my life, and I consistently down tools and wait for a new beginning to go again! I’m doing pretty good at a lot of things, I know that, but that’s the stuff I’m happy to show on here 😅

For me, 2024 is about striving for marginal improvements across all facets of my life. If, by the end of this year, I am happier, healthier, kinder, less selfish, more present, more humble, more considerate of others…specifically the people I care about…then it’ll have been a successful year. No specific goals as such, but if I can at least try to make each day better than the last on all those fronts, it’ll be a good year.

I started 2024 with a 1 mile charity run in and feel great. Start as I mean to go on 💪🏼

Happy New Year everyone….I hope 2024 brings you happiness, good health, and many special moments with the people that matter most in your life ❤️

💶 CHILDREN’S ALLOWANCE 💶

Save in a bank deposit account / Credit Union / An Post - you can expect c. 1.50% - 3.00% interest growth per annum depending on the provider and account type.

For those willing to take on more risk in search of a potentially greater return you can save in a fund that has access to the financial markets such as a multi-asset fund or EFT (Exchange Traded Fund).

The investment route is not a guarantee, and your investment is at risk of being worth less than what you initially invested. This is something that has to be said. These funds could be Actively Managed by highly qualified Investment Managers or alternatively some wish for the investment to be Passive Managed (linked to an established index for the market). There is an ongoing debate as to which strategy is better however both active and passive investments are useful and have their place. It comes down to the individual investor as to which strategy is suited to their expectations / goals.

It’s great to see the return of some interest in the deposit space, and to this is beneficial for short term savings. However if you feel that you could be saving for a longer term goal than 5 years, longer term investments (either active or passively managed) can help you achieve better returns than deposit accounts.

The images in this post show you the impact of 2.60% of an interest differential on as little as €140 per month (children’s allowance) over 18 years. It’s significant.

If you can afford to live without the monthly children’s allowance month to month, and are willing to take a long term patient approach with it, you can make that money work substantially harder for you if invested wisely.

Before deciding what to do with your children’s allowance, make sure to speak with a qualified Financial Advisor who can help you make the most suitable financial decisions for you.

Warning: Benefits may be affected by changes in currency exchange rates.
Warning: The value of your investment may go down as well as up.
Warning: If you invest in these funds you may lose some or all of the money you invest.
