Did you know that dental problems in our pets aren’t always as obvious as you might think?
Our pets will often keep eating even if their mouth is uncomfortable, so the signs can be surprisingly easy to miss.
If you’re worried about your pet’s dental health, look out for:
🐾 Chewing differently – Is your pet eating on one side, taking longer over meals or suddenly preferring softer food?
🐾 Messier mealtimes – Are they dropping food, walking away from the bowl or seeming reluctant to chew their food?
🐾 Changes in behaviour – Are they sensitive around the face or less keen to have their mouth touched?
🐾 Changes in grooming – For cats, dental discomfort can sometimes affect their normal grooming habits.
🐾 Persistent bad breath or inflamed gums can both be signs to take a closer look.
For prevention, regular brushing with pet-safe toothpaste can help support healthy teeth and gums, alongside routine dental checks with your vet.
If you notice a change in how your pet eats, behaves or uses their mouth, speak to your vet for advice.
