Fomer Garda Paul Moody was convicted of coercive control and harassment after carrying out what the court described as a prolonged and extreme campaign of abuse against former partners. In 2022, he became one of the first people in Ireland jailed for coercive control, receiving a sentence of over three years for abusing a terminally ill partner. In May 2026, he received a futher prison sentence for coercive control and harassment of another woman between 2016 and 2017. The cases highlighted the devastating impact of psychological abuse, intimidation and manipulation within domestic relationships
