Budget 2026 : Key Changes You Need to Know!!

Today’s Budget 2026 announcement brings several updates that will effect most of us in one way or another.

One of the standout changes is the reduction in the Life Assurance Exit Tax (LAET) which is down from 41% to 38%. It’s a positive move and a step in the right direction.
In my opinion, removing the 1% life assurance levy altogether would have been a very welcome move.

Here’s a quick summary of the other key measures announced:
• Mortgage Interest Tax Relief: Extended for two more years, though the benefit will reduce in the final year.
• Renters’ Tax Credit: Extended until at least 2028, providing continued relief for renters.
• National Minimum Wage: Rising to €14.15 per hour from 1 January 2026 a boost for workers, but it will increase employer costs.
• Universal Social Charge (USC): The 2% band ceiling will rise to around €28,700, helping lower earners particularly those on minimum wage keep more of their income.

Overall, welcome steps but more to do!

Auto Enrolment 📣 Key Points To Keep in Mind:

I was just thinking about auto enrolment and came up with a couple of bullet points everyone should be aware of:

• Auto-Enrolment (AE) provides a solid baseline for retirement savings — but it’s just that: a baseline.
• Existing or new company pension schemes can deliver significantly more value, especially with higher employer contributions and greater investment flexibility — both of which are powerful tools when it comes to attracting and retaining top talent.
• For higher-rate taxpayers, the tax relief available through AE is notably less generous compared to the benefits offered by a company pension scheme.

The opportunity is clear: smart businesses will look beyond the minimum and use pension offerings as a key differentiator in the talent market and savvy people will see the benefit of advice, particularly if in the higher tax band!
