I want to share an inspiring story of a 67 year old woman I met for the first time last summer in Ireland, her name is Jerilyn. I came to her place with the intention to help build her house and left after a couple of months really impressed. It wasn't just about her life and visionary projects that she had started to put in motion. What resonated with me most was what joyfulness and determination, combined with stubborness from one person can do! From an empty piece of land she created an incredible permaculture garden and the way it is organised and cared for is just another level for me, even though I worked on many gardens before. Another side is her care and love for her animals, food forest and fruit garden. And finally the house! Her vision was an eco friendly home, with a totally independent source of water and electricity, plus a living roof, all made out of natural materials: cob, wood, straw, rocks, water. I helped over the summer by working on the garden, and the house's walls and roof, which is a unique master piece in itself. This summer I am coming back. It will be my second and her third and hopefully last year of building. The roof is done, a lot of material set, but she is running low on money, so she created a GoFundMe page. So far most of the work was done with the help of volunteers and her daughters that visit her (yes, one of them is really special to me) and a local wood artist, Frank. Right now the project is still going forward, but there is a financial set back. The house cost more than it was first planned and then again the second time. It feels like it is almost there and so much is done, so we will for sure push it to the end. We helped her create the GoFundMe page, but we are still far from the goal. If her way of life resonates with you and you would like to help, please share her story or donate at her GoFundMe page. There are photos on her page and videos too if you would like to see how it all looks like, my favorite is that unique and incredible roof! If there are any constructive suggestions, questions or comments, please write them here and we can discuss them.
