The Best Kept Town Competition is a 32 county event . Arklow has been nominated as one of Southern Ireland's representative towns. Eight towns from Southern Ireland and six from Northern Ireland are invited to participate. Adjudicators will visit our town this May on an unknown date .
The criteria for judging includes Shop and Business Frontage. Is your premises well presented? Please look at your signage, the plinth at the base of your building, all the windows, are they clean, your entrance doors or gates to the side . Please power wash, w**d, sweep, clean windows, touch up paintwork.
The adjudicators also drive around to get the general impression on care and support in the town, looking at Business Entrances, Business Industrial Parks, information boards, public buildings, gable walls and landscaping . Please tidy up your entrances, clean signs, remove any dumping or litter in your vicinity.
They consider Public Spaces like the gardens, the harbour, the beach, park, tree planting and soft landscaping . The schools and churches frontage and their boundary wall onto the public footpath . Sports grounds and their entrances. Could you organise a Clean Up Group?
The presentation of Residential Areas, front gardens, landscaped entrance. What about organising an Estate Clean Up Day?
The judges have only 14 towns in total to visit . They are reviewing all aspects of each town. We can do this if we all put a huge effort into presenting everywhere at its very best . If you have already cleaned up Thank You. The tourism boost and investment expected to the town that wins this prestigious award is very worthwhile.
Summer hanging baskets greatly enhance the town for the second judging for Supervalu Tidy Town competition in June. Please contact [email protected] to order your floral display or to donate to support. Sponsorship of the baskets is needed for this project to continue to enhance our town .
Thank You All, Sandra Duffy and Teresa Earls and the Arklow Tidy Towns Volunteers.

We attended the 2025 ACE Awards on Saturday night in the Arklow Bay Hotel, and it was a fantastic celebration of everything that makes this community special.
The room was filled with volunteers, local groups, charities, and organisations who give their time, energy, and heart to Arklow. The atmosphere was buzzing! full of pride, connection, and genuine appreciation for the people who keep our community moving forward.

From the performances to the presentations, the whole evening reflected the strength of Arklow’s volunteer spirit and the huge breadth of work taking place across the town. It was great to see so many groups recognised for the difference they make. Well done to the organisers for putting together such a meaningful night, and congratulations to every nominee and winner. Our community is stronger because of you.

Last week we welcomed local businesses to our Pension Auto-Enrolment Recap Information Event at the Arklow Bay Hotel, and the engagement in the room was fantastic.

A huge thank you to our presenters Kerry Ward and David Proby of R. Hendy & Co. who delivered clear, practical insights on what employers and employees need to know ahead of the 1 January 2026 launch. Their guidance helped demystify the scheme and sparked great discussion among attendees.

Thanks also to everyone who joined us on the day. The level of participation and the quality of questions showed just how proactive our business community is in preparing for the changes ahead.

A huge congratulations to James Kelly of LMH Engineering, who takes the stage this evening as a finalist in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2025.

This is an incredible achievement for James and a proud moment for Arklow.
To see one of our local business leaders recognised among Ireland’s top entrepreneurs says so much about the innovation, ambition, and work ethic that exists in our town.

James has built LMH Engineering into a standout success story, creating high skilled jobs, driving continuous improvement, and showcasing what local industry can achieve at national and international level. His leadership reflects the very best of Arklow’s business spirit.

Everyone at the Arklow & District Chamber of Commerce is behind you tonight, James.
Whatever the outcome, you’ve already done our town proud.

Best of luck this evening, your success lifts the whole community.
