Notwithstanding the growing campaign in disaster consciousness, Indonesia is still in the status of eradicating or even diminishing the hurdle in lack of awareness of the dangers posed by disasters, especially in the field of climate change. Lack of awareness is often caused by policies which do not consider principles of sustainability. Existing policies do not absorb ecosystem disaster risk redu
ction and building partnerships for a wider attention. To provide a comprehensive approach in the midst of these crisis efforts in reducing disaster risks and climate change impacts, LEARN Foundation is formed and promotes the principles of sustainability, environmental -friendly, participatory, transparency, and subsidiarity. With these five principles, LEARN Foundation is working with its partners to embody the harmony of mankind and nature and to create a resilient community. Primarily, LEARN Foundation is anchored to a capacity building project for local non-government organizations (NGOs) in Sumatra, Indonesia, called LEARN (Local Emergency Response and Assessment Network). The program trainers and participants established a partnership and network of mutual benefits in terms of capacity building, sharing information and resources.
