HARMONIZING — ANDI RAHMAT / NUSAÉ

Twenty years of practice, ten years of NUSAÉ.

This book is a reflection on a way of working—one that sees design through relationships: between graphic and space, people and place, culture and memory.

For me, harmonizing is not about making things the same. It is about understanding what already exists, finding connections, and allowing differences to exist together.

Fungsi membuat desain bekerja. Komunikasi membuatnya dipahami. Rasa membuatnya bermakna.

Bagi NUSAÉ, harmonisasi adalah kesadaran akan hubungan antara manusia, material, ruang, dan konteks. Dari hubungan itulah rasa muncul—bukan sebagai sesuatu yang ditambahkan pada desain, melainkan sebagai sesuatu yang lahir darinya.

Gagasan tersebut kami eksplorasi melalui Designing MATERIAL / MATERIAL Designing, sebuah pameran yang diselenggarakan pada ARCH 2026. Melalui pameran ini, kami mengajak pengunjung melihat material bukan sekadar sebagai elemen fisik, melainkan sebagai medium yang membentuk karakter, menghadirkan pengalaman, dan memengaruhi cara manusia merasakan ruang.

It is an honor for NUSAÉ to contribute to the development of the Visual Identity System, Environmental Graphic Design, Signage, and Wayfinding for MASA Curated Market at Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Singapore.

Rooted in the spirit of gotong royong—the core philosophy of MASA—we translated this value into a visual communication language that connects identity, information, and the visitor experience. Through a bespoke typographic system, modular graphic elements, and an integrated signage and wayfinding program, we sought to create a contemporary expression of Indonesia—one that remains deeply rooted in its cultural heritage while resonating with a global audience.

For us, design extends beyond creating visual identities. It is about shaping how a place communicates, how people navigate it, and how meaningful experiences unfold. This approach reflects MASA’s vision of presenting Indonesia through creativity, culture, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Weaving and Nurturing Culture. At NUSAÉ, we believe that culture is never static. It continues to evolve through the ways new generations understand, preserve, and reinterpret it. This belief became the foundation of our work when NUSAÉ was appointed as the Brand & Graphic Design Consultant and Exhibition Graphics Consultant for Awan Cerah 2026, a photography competition and exhibition for children and youth centered around the theme The Young, The Cultured. Through this project, we translated the relationship between young people and Indonesian culture into a visual identity system that feels warm, approachable, and deeply connected to everyday life.

Guided by the concept of Weaving and Nurturing Culture, we developed a typographic exploration inspired by objects found in Indonesia’s cultural landscape, complemented by illustrated characters that embody playfulness, collaboration, and curiosity. More than a visual identity, this project seeks to create an experience where design, space, and culture come together—celebrating culture as a living practice that continues to grow and find new meaning through younger generations.
