🍇 The story begins in 1929, in Mailly-Champagne.

It‘s in the heart of this village in the northern part of the ⛰ Montagne de Reims, with vines grown exclusively on this village, that a unique champagne terroir was born. 🧬

It all began with the acquisition of a plot of land at the entrance of the village, where a wine press was installed. Just next door, the vats were filled with the first wines. The first production, limited to 🍾 3,600 bottles, was carefully stored around the press.

On the eve of the 1931 harvest, the building overflowed with a stock of 51,000 bottles. Faced with this situation, the decision was made to dig ourselves our own cellars ⛏ to house future cuvées.

Over more than thirty winters, the cellars gradually expanded, becoming the guardians of our terroir champagnes, a heritage 🤎 that continues to this day.

Ainsi, durant près de trente hivers, les caves se sont progressivement agrandies, devenant les gardiennes de nos champagnes de terroir, un héritage 🤎 qui perdure encore aujourd’hui.

164th HOSPICES DE BEAUNE
SUNDAY 17th of NOVEMBER

Save the Date !

This 164th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction is particularly exciting because of the specificities of this vintage that Ludivine Griveau describes as «experimental». This vintage was used as an opportunity to test new practices; to take advantage of the proficiency of the winemakers, driven by Ludivine Griveau to try and overcome the challenges of the climatic conditions this year.
Winter 2023/2024 was rather wet with less frost than usual. The average temperatures were 2°c hotter than usual. The buds broke towards the end of march, which is usual.

438 barrels will be up for sale compared to 753 in 2023. 321 barrels of red wine and 117 barrels of white, versus 574 of red and 179 of white last year.

For the first time in the history of the Hospices de Beaune, the 2024 vintage will embody the successful conversion of its 60-hectare vineyard to organic farming. This new step forward in the prestigious history of the estate echoes the conviction and objectives of the institution to put at the core of their project the health-environment relationship.

Founded to local tradition, a Latin inscription founded in the underground galleries of the Château dates its construction back to the XIII century.

The legend fails to say, however, whether the first of its known lords of the manor, Gaillard de Gassac, was a lover of the product of the vine. One thing that is certain is that the vast, elegant cellars adjoining the fortress are still home today to the wines of the estate and testify to an ancestral vine-growing tradition, one of the recent characteristics of which was the joining at the end of the 19th century home of two neighbouring estates : D'Agassac and Pomiès-Agassac.

Graced with one of the oldest vineyards in the Médoc, Agassac has chosen to produce authentic, unadulterated wines with the help of the famous consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt (Les Carmes Haut Brion, Larrivet Haut Brion, Domaine de Chevalier, Smith Haut Lafitte)- not given to excess concentration, making moderate use of new oak, preference is given to achieving a balance between wood and fruit, and to opting for gentle extraction to preserve that fruitiness and the personality of the terroir.

The 2019 d Agassac has a concentrated, intense bouquet, a mix of black and blueberry fruit laced with crushed violet, with perfect ripeness. The palate is succulent and rounded with blue fruit notes. He will evolve to more complexity and personality to reach is usual classic after taste..

NEW AGENCY:
CHAMPAGNE MAILLY GRAND CRU

Founded in 1929, MAILLY Grand Cru is one of the oldest cooperatives in Champagne. That year 24 local grape growers joined forces to make the best Champagne out of their vineyards in Mailly.
MAILLY Grand Cru is one of the few Champagne estates to enjoy 100% Grand Cru rating. Their vineyards extend over more than 70 hectares. Plantings consist of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, the unusual freshness of the Pinot Noir marrying beautifully with the Chardonnay.
The estate is composed of 35 different lieux-dits favouring subtle, well-balanced wines.

Hospices de Beaune 2023 !

Sunday, November 19th !

Save the Date !

This 163rd Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction is going to be very expected because of the quality, and already fame of the 2023 vintage.
753 barrels will be put on sale in total compared to 802 last year. 574 barrels of red, there were 620 in 2022 and 179 of white/182.The Hospices produced less than last year as this does not reflect the production of this vintage in other estates. The winemaker Ludivine Griveau gave the following explanations: early in the season she estimated that there were too many grapes by vines and grapes were too big. She did a severe green harvest and also another important sorting at the winery. As a result, yields were lower than 2022.

🫶The charity piece of the 2022 Hospices de Beaune wine sale was sold for 810000 €
“There is nothing more joyful than a child's laughter or smile, and nothing more heart breaking than to see a child ill, especially with cancer, this disease that is so unfair. Both our families have experienced this directly with the passing of my daughter Romane and my friend Louis-Fabrice Latour. It was so fitting to make the purchase with Maison Louis Latour in order to support two associations that mean so much to us, in particular Princess Margot, to bring support and comfort to sick children and their families. We are very touched that our colleagues from the FNEB have joined us to raise the €700,000 that our two families have shared, thereby donating a substantial sum to the associations. We congratulate them on their work.” Frédéric Drouhin, President of Joseph Drouhin.

Hospices de Beaune 2022 !

Sunday, November 20th !

Save the Date !

A word from Frederic Drouhin: "A very anticipated 162th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction due to its quality, quantity and already the fame of the 2022 vintage. The winemaker of the Hospices de Beaune, Ludivine Griveau, is still doing an amazing craft manshift work. Since her arrival a couple of years ago she implemented many changes: the conversion to organic culture for the entire estate 2 years ago and vinification of smaller parcels for some crus like Corton.
This year there are 2 new cuvees. 1st of all, and for us it was a surprise, the Beaune 1er cru Clos des Mouches blanc Cuvée Hugues et Louis Bétault. The vineyards used to be planted with Pinot Noir and a small portion has been replanted with Chardonnay. We believe we have been a source of inspiration with our own Beaune Clos des Mouches blanc ! There will be also a Corton Grand Cru Cuvee les Renardes.
A total of 620 barrels of red will go on sale; there were 293 in 2021. And in white 182 barrels compared to 156 barrels last year. That’s a total close to 2018. "
