The European Parliament has adopted the MiCA and TFR regulations for crypto assets. They will likely be published in June 2023 and come into force in July 2023 and January 2025, respectively. regulations will come into force from July 2024.

PayPal's 10-Q filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission reveals that the company holds customer assets worth approximately $943 million on its balance sheet, including cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin. The crypto assets held in custody by the company on behalf of its customers increased by $339 million compared to the end of last year. The company itself does not hold any cryptocurrency on its balance sheet.

Liechtenstein will allow its citizens to pay for certain government services using Bitcoin in the future. Prime Minister Risch is also open to government investments in cryptocurrencies. This move is similar to what Zug, Switzerland has been doing since 2021, where residents can pay for fees and taxes using Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has launched the e-HKD Pilot Programme with 16 firms to explore potential use cases for a retail central bank digital currency. The pilots will examine six categories of use cases and will help refine the HKMA's approach to e-HKD implementation. The HKMA will share the key learnings with the public at Hong Kong FinTech Week 2023 and plans to establish a CBDC Expert Group to facilitate collaboration on CBDC research.
