Today, on World Mental Health Day, we are reminded that mental well-being matters to all of us, whether at sea, in the office, or at home.

The challenges we face are not always visible, and there are times when any one of us may need support. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness. It is often the first step towards feeling better.

At Anglo-Eastern, through our WeCare initiatives and support programmes, we strive to make sure our seafarers and shore colleagues have access to resources, guidance and people they can turn to when they need help. While programmes and policies are important, what matters most is knowing that you do not have to face challenges alone.

Let's continue to look out for one another, check in with colleagues and friends, and create an environment where conversations about mental well-being are welcomed and supported.

Shipping’s ability to adapt depends on informed decisions, capable people and strong collaboration across the industry.

Speaking during the panel ‘Giants of the Sea: Industry Leaders in Conversation’ at the Marine Insight Summit on Wednesday, our Chief Commercial Officer Niraj Nanda reflected on the capabilities the industry needs to navigate change.

Niraj shared Anglo-Eastern’s view that modern ship management increasingly brings operational risk, compliance, data, technology and human factors together to support shipowners through increasingly complex conditions. He also emphasised that technology delivers value when it gives people better information and enables earlier, sounder decisions.

Our thanks to Marine Insight, moderator Punit Oza, and fellow panellists Ashutosh Bajpai, Arvind Shankar and Harsh Bhave for the open exchange and constructive discussion.

A strong maritime talent pipeline begins well before a young cadet steps on board. It starts with access to the right information, honest guidance and experienced mentors.

Last week at Technology in Maritime (TIM) event in Mumbai, Capt Vinayak Mohla, our Head of Cadet Recruitment & Competency Management, was recognised with the title of ‘Nau Acharya’ (Youth Icon) for his contribution to mentoring and inspiring aspiring maritime professionals.

The recognition reflects a commitment shared across Anglo-Eastern: helping young people understand the realities, opportunities and responsibilities of maritime careers. Our teams at Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy and our post-sea training centres engage with educational institutions and youngsters to raise awareness of careers at sea and ashore, while training, mentoring and structured career development help turn that early interest into lasting professional capability.

We congratulate Capt Vinayak on this well-deserved honour, and thank all educators, mentors, and industry partners who consistently support and guide the maritime professionals of tomorrow.

OMore than 80% of the world's commodities move by sea, and for most of shipping's history, the fuel behind that trade was chosen on cost. Environmental regulation and market-based measures have reset that equation.

Mahesh Subramanian, our Head of ESG & Carbon Services, shares how that has changed the conversations with various stakeholders and what inspires his passion for the role.

How does a seafarer build a successful career ashore? For those making the transition, it’s more accurately described as a leadership development journey than a career change.

Capt Sudipto Dasgupta, Director of Marine HR at Anglo-Eastern, explored this question as a panellist at "The Making of a Maritime Leader" session during TMI Grand Muster 2026, sharing what it takes to move from ship to shore.

Sea service builds discipline, resilience and decision-making under pressure, but a smooth transition ashore also calls for commercial awareness, adaptability and strong professional networks. As Sudipto noted, that transition begins long before a seafarer applies for a shore-based role. It starts with preparing early, seeking mentors and staying curious.

At Anglo-Eastern, this is reflected in how we support our seafarers through structured mentorship and career development pathways, helping them build the foundations for a shore career well before they need it.

Our thanks to the Gateway Mariners Foundation TMI Mumbai for hosting such a valuable discussion, and to the fellow panellists for sharing their own journeys and insights.

At the inaugural Splash Singapore, our CEO Bjorn Hojgaard joined "The Big Issues" panel alongside other senior leaders from across the shipping industry, discussing how organisations must transform to operate in today's disruptive environment.

Bjorn spoke about the shift from a "just-in-time" mindset to a "just-in-case" one – prioritising optionality over prediction to cater to various scenarios, as forecasting itself becomes less reliable. At Anglo-Eastern, this has translated into deliberate redundancy: parallel data infrastructure across Hong Kong and Singapore, and banking relationships spread across different geographies.

Speaking about talent, Bjorn distilled what we look for in our people into three words: intelligence, integrity and drive. The ability to adapt when old assumptions no longer hold, sound judgement when the answer isn't clear-cut, and the follow-through to turn analysis into results at sea. These principles continue to shape how we develop our seafarers and shore teams.

Thank you to Splash for convening such a meaningful discussion, and to moderator Sam Chambers and the fellow panellists, Hor Weng Yew, Jeremy Sutton, John Su and Nick Potter, for a thought-provoking conversation that spotlighted the complexity our industry is navigating.

today are weighing alternative fuels, new technologies and investment decisions that will shape the next decade, all while the environmental regulations are still taking shape.

Mrugeshkumar Balasubramanian, our Commercial Manager of Maritime Services, works alongside shipowners and operators every day as they navigate that uncertainty, from EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime to UK ETS and the wider regulatory drive towards decarbonisation.

Watch the video for Mrugesh’s take on the gap between policy and practice. Closing the gap is exactly what the International Maritime Organization - IMO's World Maritime Day theme, ‘From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence,’ is calling for.

Safe and efficient operations are strengthened when shipowners and ship managers share experience openly.

Together with our industry peers, Anglo-Eastern joined our client partner NYK Line at its third Vessel Managers’ Conference in Tokyo earlier this month, contributing to discussions on safety, vessel performance and seafarer well-being.

Representing Anglo-Eastern, Capt Anand Dalela (Fleet Manager), Austin Carvalho (Deputy Fleet Manager) and Capt Rohit Mehrotra (Group Director of Marine HR) shared perspectives and experiences drawn from QHSE, technical management and crewing. Their contributions covered frontline safety engagement, data-informed fleet oversight and structured support for seafarers’ careers.

We thank NYK Line for hosting a constructive forum to exchange practical knowledge. Conversations of this kind are an important part of our commitment to client partners and to the maritime community. They help us understand priorities, learn from one another and strengthen the day-to-day work behind safe, reliable and efficient vessel operations.
