Remember the ONE APUS incident in 2020?
Over 1,800 containers were lost in heavy weather, resulting in substantial cargo losses and claims that lasted for years.
That was not a one-off.
Similar incidents occurred, such as the MOL COMFORT incident in 2013. Being one of the worst disasters in container shipping history, the vessel broke in two and sank, leading to the total loss of cargo involving more than 4,000 containers.
These incidents continue to happen, and it is impossible to know whose cargo may be affected next.
Container fires, stack collapses, and losses due to the elements are recurring risks in global shipping.
Fortunately, most of these risks are transferable through insurance.
The best time to transfer risk is before the next major loss, not after.
Early planning means better protection, better pricing, and fewer surprises.
