In June 2024, HK's Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) has issued the city’s first set of personal data protection guidelines for businesses using generative artificial intelligence (AI) services, saying it will carry out more compliance checks as AI adoption increases.

As one can see, the combination of AI and personal data has critical economic value, applicable to every aspects, including but not limited to employment and human resource management for general corporates, consumer credit data for money lending business, or even announcement of exam result by educational organizations are all relevant to privacy.

In 2021, a man who was driving was stopped by the Police, his driving licence was found expired, the man he sped off and officers later shot him in the shoulder after dramatic chase. The man then filed a personal injury claim over the shooting, claiming that the Police involved were "totally reckless", the case was under court procedure, but the man has been sentenced for 3 years in jail for 5 dangerous driving charges.

In March 2024, the Insurance Authority has executed disciplinary measures against 3 ex-insurance agents for failing to comply with the required standards of conduct and propriety necessary for the issuance of an insurance intermediary license. Two of which are relating to the use of falified academic documents to meet the educational prerequisites for becoming insurance agents, under the guidelines of the previously effective self-regulatory framework. The third disciplinary action involved a former agent who also held a registration as a subsidiary intermediary under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (MPFSO).
