GPSCCU awards 76 bursaries to Members’ children
Some 76 students on Friday were awarded bursaries by the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union, in recognition of their outstanding performance at the last National Grade Six Assessment.
The presentation which was held at the Theatre Guild was attended by Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Hon. Keoma Griffith, MP, Chairman of the Committee of Management of GPSCCU, Mr. Trevor L. Benn, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Christopher Thompson and other members of the Committee of Management and staff.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Griffith congratulated the students for excelling at the NGSA and used the opportunity to urge the parents to pay keen interest in their children’s education.
Chairman of the Committee of Management, Mr. Trevor L. Benn, appealed to the bursary awardees, to continue to do well in school. He said the Bursary awards forms part of the GPSCCU’s calendar of activities and is an event taken as a serious part of the organization’s corporate social responsibility.
Of the 76 persons awarded, 57 were new awardees that recently completed the NGSA exam and 19 students are continuous awardees—this means students who receive 75% and more at their examinations during the school terms and was previously awarded a bursary.
The bursaries are awarded to children or members in all ten administrative regions.
