Multicolores is a Guatemala registered non-profit organization that supports Maya women in their process of self-discovery and artistic development. Multicolores uses art as a tool for exploration and expression, igniting the artists’ many talents and abilities, and empowering them to become powerful agents of change. Multicolores works with groups of Maya K’iché, Kaqchiquel and Tzutujil women from the Guatemalan highlands. Our artists represent 9 communities from the regions of Sololá, Totonicapán, Quiché, Quetzaltenango and Sacatepéquez. Together we are a strong support network that encourages well-being and fulfillment among all members. We believe in mutual aid, promote environmental consciousness and thrive on building relationships with diverse local and international communities.

A closer look at the hands, stories, and traditions behind the art. 💛

Today, we traveled to the rural community of Quiejel to visit the home of Multicolores Artists Lesly and Petronila, where we were welcomed by their families and fellow Artists.

We learned about the community’s rich textile traditions, experienced a traditional backstrap-weaving demonstration, and discovered how generations of Maya textile knowledge are inspiring new forms of artistic expression through rug hooking.

It was a beautiful opportunity to connect with the Artists in their own community and see how tradition continues to evolve, one creation at a time. 🧵✨

From Antigua to Panajachel, our journey brought us closer to the heart of Guatemala’s textile traditions. 💛🧵

Along the way, we stopped at the ancient Maya ruins of Iximché before continuing to the Multicolores office and gallery, where we discovered the incredible work of our Maya women Artists.

Through our rug hooking and embroidery programs, we explored the techniques, creativity, and stories behind their work, learning how these art forms are opening new opportunities for women to share their talents and build brighter futures.

Every stitch and every creation carries a story. And getting to know the Artists behind them makes that story even more meaningful. ✨

A day of discovery, tradition, and creativity in Antigua Guatemala! 💛✨

We explored the charming streets of Antigua on a walking tour, discovered the rich history of chocolate through a hands-on chocolate-making experience, and immersed ourselves in the art of indigo dyeing during a workshop with Olga Reich.

From the stories held within this historic city to the beauty of working with natural color, every experience brought us closer to Guatemala’s cultural and artistic heritage.

Another beautiful day of learning, creating, and connecting. 🧵💙

Our Textile Tour is officially underway! ✨

We began our journey at Casa del Arte with a fascinating introduction to the history of Maya textiles, followed by a traditional lunch at Lydia López’s studio. There, we experienced a beautiful demonstration of the weaving techniques of San Antonio Aguas Calientes, gaining a closer look at the knowledge and traditions woven into every thread.

A meaningful first day of learning, sharing, and connecting with the rich textile heritage of Guatemala. And this is just the beginning! 💛
