At the 6th ESP Europe Conference in Prague, Czechia, LIFE RENATA showcase was presented in the conference by Apostolos Karteris, Dr. Environmental Engineer and Co-Owner of kartECO. The ESP conference brought together scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and other stakeholders to explore how ecosystem services can be harnessed to reduce social inequalities, strengthen climate resilience, and drive sustainable development. Discussions at the conference focused on the integration of ecosystem services into decision-making processes, policy implementation, and cross-sectoral collaboration in response to new policies at national and EU levels.

🌍 Roadmap towards Natura 2000 Transition ✨

🔗 The Roadmap supports Moldova’s transition from the Emerald Network to the EU Natura 2000 Network.

🛠️ It provides a clear step-by-step plan for legal alignment, site designation, data mapping, management, monitoring and financing.

📅 The transition is structured in three phases:
Pre-accession, accession and post-accession, until 2030 and beyond.

🤝 A practical tool for authorities, experts, site managers and partners working for nature conservation.

Life Renata has been has been a bridge of knowledge and cooperation between Greece and Moldova.

🇬🇷 Drawing on Greece’s experience with Natura 2000 the projrct worked with Moldovan institutions to turn EU requirements into practical, nationally relevant tools.

🇲🇩 The project’s key legacy is stronger operational capacity:
✅ trained professionals
✅ technical guidelines
✅ monitoring and reporting methods
✅ a Knowledge Repository
✅ an updated GIS database for the Emerald Network

Today Life Renata Project held its Final Conference and Local Seminar on Governance Mechanisms and Implementation Pathways for Natura 2000, discussing its contribution.

Τhe Life Renata Project successfully completed the 2nd three-day training seminar on operational aspects of the EU Nature Directives. The event aims at capacity building of key stakeholders and authorities from the Republic of Moldova, including management practices and institutions, presentations on funding, data collection and monitoring, as well as thematic presentations on specific aspects of the Natura 2000 network/protected areas.

Held from 31 March to 2 April 2026 in Thessaloniki, the training brought together experts, administrative officers, policymakers to exchange experience and discuss the latest research and developments on legal, technical, and operational aspects of biodiversity conservation. The programme combined structured presentations with fruitful interactive sessions, focusing on critical tools such as GIS-based monitoring systems, habitat assessment methodologies and governance frameworks supporting Natura 2000 implementation.

kartECO is pleased to announce the award of the “Wildfires Information Systems Enhancement Project in North Macedonia”, a twelve-month technical assistance initiative commissioned by the United Nations & Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).

The project will strengthen the country’s national capacity for wildfire risk management by upgrading the existing North Macedonian Forest Fire Information System (MKFFIS).

Through new, advanced information modules, the system will expand beyond forested areas to cover all fire-prone landscapes. The upgraded system will deliver more accurate hazard mapping, improved fire forecasting and enhanced damage assessment by integrating data on combustible materials, weather conditions and historical fire patterns.
