Collective learning, exchanging of ideas, strengthening partnerships and organising diverse actions for Degrowth in Greece. Do you want to know the story behind this page? The current page used to belong to STEP Forward Project, a Capacity Building project co-financed by the European Commission, coordinated by Inter Alia (Athens, Greece) in partnership with Solidarites Jeunesses Vietnam (Hanoi, Vi
etnam), Sedavp Ghana (Tamale, Ghana), Asociacion Projuven (Malaga, Spain), Brigada de Voluntarios Bolivarianos del Peru (Lima, Peru), Resource Hub for Development (Nairobi, Kenya), and Xeracion Valencia (Gandia, Spain). STEP refers to Sustainable and Transformative Education for Participation in Democratic Life. The project promoted active citizenship by drawing attention to the values of sustainability and integrating them to non-formal activities. It was one of the first attempts to radicalism environmental education. The developed activities can be found online and they can be used freely for no commercial purposes: https://stepforwardproject.weebly.com/educational-material.html
STEP Forward Project included 1 Training Course on Sustainability and Community Building; 6 Job Shadowing activities, the design of a Training module which incorporated issues of democracy, civic participation and sustainability in a non-formal education format combining experiences from Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America; 1 Training Course in the form of a Winter School to present and apply the module to youth workers, activists and other professionals of the education sector, and 7 local events for the promotion of the module to the local communities organised by the participants of the international mobilities. After the end of the financial period of the project, STEP turned into a community that supported active and participatory education while exploring alternative community models, social and ecological initiatives. Education has been and still is considered a key for systems change! Currently, this page host "Let's talk about degrowth" an informal group dedicated to collective learning, exchanging of ideas, strengthening partnerships and organising diverse actions for Degrowth in Greece. "Let's talk about degrowth" has it's own story! Let's talk about degrowth was a short experimental workshop organised in October 2023. the workshop led to the development of an activities toolkit about degrowth: https://thedegrowthstudent.weebly.com/the-degrowth-student/lets-talk-about-degrowth-workshop
After the success of the workshop, it was decided to expand it into a series of workshops taking place in Greece, organised by Inter Alia, aiming to ignite deep discussions and raise critical questions about our growth-dependent society and its implications. It brought together 40+ people in a transformative learning environment, fostering collective sharing and critical thinking. It also contributed to the organisation of participatory planning workshops on socio-spatial degrowth futures in Athens, Kozani (Greece), and Pontevedra (Spain), reaching an additional 50+ people.
