🎀Together, we stand stronger.

On Sunday, 4 October, more than 58,000 people across Greece took part in the Greece Race for the Cure® 2026. The Euronext Athens team proudly joined the race at Pedion tou Areos, marking our third consecutive year of participation in this important initiative, organised by the Hellenic Association of Women with Breast Cancer, Alma Zois.

Once again, we came together to support breast cancer awareness and show our commitment to social responsibility.

A big thank you to all our colleagues who joined us and made this day so meaningful.

Looking back at a truly memorable evening!

On 15 September, we celebrated a remarkable milestone: 150 years of the Athens Stock Exchange — 150 years of history, transformation and contribution to the Greek economy and capital markets.

It was a special evening, bringing together leaders from the Greek and European business, investment and capital markets community to reflect on the journey behind us and, most importantly, to discuss the opportunities ahead.

Α heartfelt thank you to our distinguished speakers, Kostis Hatzidakis, Yianos Kontopoulos, Gikas Hardouvelis and Stephane Boujnah, for sharing their perspectives and showing how 150 years of history provide a strong foundation for the Athens Stock Exchange's next chapter within the European capital markets landscape.

A special thank you also to our panel speakers, Panagiotis Antonopoulos, Vassiliki Lazarakou, Dimitris Papalexopoulos and Eleni Vrettou, for an insightful discussion on the future of capital markets, and to journalist Maria-Nefeli Sarafoglou for guiding us through the evening with warmth and professionalism.

How can the direction of an entire stock market be captured at a glance? 👁️

In late 1964, the Athens Stock Exchange introduced the General Price Index. By reflecting the overall trend of share prices, the Index provided a concise view of whether the market is moving upwards or downwards.

It has since become a key point of reference for the Greek capital market.

🏛️ A milestone moment in Athens Stock Exchange history.

In the early 1920s, the rapid increase in numbers of Athens Stock Exchange members signaled the need for a new building. The existing trading floor had become too small to host the expanding activity of the market.

Following years of discussions and financial challenges, a landmark agreement was secured with the National Bank of Greece for the construction of a new headquarters at 10 Sofokleous Street.

📅 On 19 December 1934, the new building officially opened its doors, becoming the fifth home of the Athens Stock Exchange since its establishment.

🏛️ Ένα ορόσημο στην ιστορία του Χρηματιστηρίου Αθηνών.

Στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1920, η συνεχής αύξηση των μελών του Χρηματιστηρίου Αθηνών κατέστησε επιτακτική την ανάγκη για νέα στέγη. Η μικρή αίθουσα συναλλαγών δεν επαρκούσε πλέον για να φιλοξενήσει τη δραστηριότητα και τη δυναμική της αγοράς.

Ύστερα από πολυετείς συζητήσεις και οικονομικές προκλήσεις, επιτεύχθηκε συμφωνία με την Εθνική Τράπεζα της Ελλάδος για την ανέγερση νέου κτιρίου στην οδό Σοφοκλέους 10.

📅 Στις 19 Δεκεμβρίου 1934 πραγματοποιήθηκαν με κάθε επισημότητα τα εγκαίνια του νέου κτιρίου, της πέμπτης κατά σειρά έδρας του Χρηματιστηρίου από την ίδρυσή του.

🏛️ If you walk along PesmazoglouStreet in the heart of Athens today, you will notice the inscription “THE STOCK EXCHANGE” on the façade of the building at No. 1.

This is more than a simple nod to the past.

The building housed the Athens Stock Exchange for over four decades, from 1 November 1891 until November 1934.

The inscription remains visible today, serving as one of the few tangible reminders of the institution’s presence in Athens’ historic city centre.

🏛️ Αν σήμερα βρεθεί κανείς στην οδό Πεσμαζόγλου, στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, θα διακρίνει στην πρόσοψη του κτιρίου στον αριθμό 1 την επιγραφή «ΤΟ ΧΡΗΜΑΤΙΣΤΗΡΙΟ».

Δεν πρόκειται για μια απλή αναφορά στο παρελθόν.

Στο κτίριο αυτό στεγάστηκε το Χρηματιστήριο Αθηνών για περισσότερα από τέσσερις δεκαετίες, από την 1η Νοεμβρίου 1891 έως τον Νοέμβριο του 1934.

Η επιγραφή παραμένει έως σήμερα ως μία από τις λίγες ορατές υπενθυμίσεις της παρουσίας του θεσμού στο ιστορικό κέντρο της πόλης.

📜 30 September 1876

The story of the Athens Stock Exchange began on 30 September 1876, during the premiership of Alexandros Koumoundouros, whose government issued the decree for the institution’s establishment.

Its first premises were located inthe historic Mela Mansion, a building that had previously served as Athens’ central post office. The Stock Exchange remained there until September 1881.

Shortly afterwards, on 12 November 1876, its first internal regulations were published in the Government Gazette, laying the foundations for its operation.

These early milestones marked the beginning of the remarkable journey of an institution that would go on to shape the growth of the Greek capital market.

📜 30 Σεπτεμβρίου 1876

Η ιστορία του Χρηματιστηρίου Αθηνών ξεκινά επί κυβερνήσεως Αλέξανδρου Κουμουνδούρου, όταν εκδόθηκε η κυβερνητική απόφαση για τη σύστασή του.

Η πρώτη του στέγη ήταν το Μέγαρο Μελά, στον χώρο όπου μέχρι τότε λειτουργούσε το κεντρικό ταχυδρομείο της Αθήνας. Το Χρηματιστήριο παρέμεινε εκεί έως τα τέλη Σεπτεμβρίου του 1881.

Λίγες εβδομάδες αργότερα, στις 12 Νοεμβρίου 1876, δημοσιεύθηκε στην Εφημερίδα της Κυβερνήσεως ο πρώτος εσωτερικός κανονισμός λειτουργίας του θεσμού.

Έτσι ξεκίνησε η πορεία ενός θεσμού που επρόκειτο να διαδραματίσει σημαντικό ρόλο στην ανάπτυξη της ελληνικής κεφαλαιαγοράς.
