That’s what some of us ADF Youth Leadership project is doing in Northern Ghana.
“You are not teaching signs. You are unlocking leadership, work, and inclusion.”
My TOT project (Breaking Barriers: sign language training and advocacy)trained Deaf youth and women to become leaders, advocates and sign language educators. Participants also learned how to use social media platforms specially Facebook, WhatsApp channel to promote inclusion and motivate others to learn sign language.
The impact is already visible
✔ Deaf youth gaining confidence
✔ New teaching jobs created
✔ Communities learning inclusion
✔ More awareness about Ghanaian Sign Language
We believe every Deaf person deserves equal opportunities in education, employment, and leadership.
The project will also support 20% of hearing Youth who can become Sign language teaching assistants and advocate for inclusion.
This project would not have been possible without the advice, encouragement and support from our partners, mentor, and stakeholders: AFRICAN DISABILITY FORUM (ADF)
Light for the World, Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, my mentor... with your support, I can reach youth in Tamale and hopefully to still with the rest in Wa in the Upper West Region and beyond.
