CREDIT & LOAN MANAGEMENT SERIES | MODULE 1
LOAN ORIGINATION, IT STARTS WITH ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS
Every loan application tells a story. Before we think about approval, collateral or repayment, we need to understand the person behind the application and the reason they need the money.
Good loan origination begins with understanding the customer’s need, not simply processing an application.
As Credit Officers and lending professionals, we should ask:
✅ Who is the customer, and what is their financial situation?
✅ Do they qualify for the facility?
✅ What loan product best suits their need?
✅ How much do they genuinely need?
✅ What exactly will the money be used for?
✅ What is the realistic source of repayment?
These questions may look simple, but they can make a significant difference to the quality of a loan portfolio.
A poorly understood loan can become a problem after disbursement. A well-originated loan starts with proper information, sound judgment and a clear understanding of repayment capacity.
Key lesson: A good loan does not start with approval. It starts with the right questions.
This is Module 1 of the Credit & Loan Management Series, where I share practical lessons on credit appraisal, risk management, loan monitoring, delinquency management and recovery.
Follow the series. The goal is simple: Better Credit Decisions. Greater Impact.
