⬆️ Ghana Pushes New Anti-Extremism Pact as Sahel Crisis Deepens

By Ollus R. Ndomu

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama is calling for a new West African security compact to confront violent extremism in the Sahel, warning that instability from jihadist groups has become a spreading “cancer” with the potential to consume the region if not met with unified resolve.

Speaking in Accra alongside visiting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Mahama said West Africa needs a broader and more inclusive security architecture that goes beyond current regional blocs. He noted that coordination has weakened since Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger withdrew from ECOWAS, creating fractures in regional defence mechanisms at a time when cross-border militant activity is rising.

Ghana shares borders with Burkina Faso and has stepped up surveillance and community-based prevention programmes in its northern zone. Mahama has repeatedly argued that Ghana and its neighbours must not wait for insurgent cells to gain a foothold before acting decisively. His latest proposal reflects growing urgency in Accra’s security calculus as militant networks adapt and attempt to move south.

President Steinmeier praised Ghana’s diplomatic leadership and reaffirmed Berlin’s commitment to support counter-terrorism and stabilisation efforts in West Africa. Germany has been reassessing its role in the Sahel following the withdrawal of Western forces from Mali and shifting military alliances in the region. Steinmeier’s remarks signal that Ghana now stands as a central partner in Berlin’s revised regional engagement.

Beyond security, the two leaders discussed economic mobility, youth employment and climate action. Mahama urged the creation of clear legal migration pathways for skilled Ghanaian workers to access opportunities in Germany, arguing that managed migration provides mutual benefit and helps curb irregular flows. Steinmeier acknowledged the value of structured labour exchanges and highlighted the importance of skills training and investment in renewable energy partnerships.

The meeting underscores a new phase in West Africa’s geopolitical landscape. With former security anchors drifting from ECOWAS and Sahelian juntas consolidating power under alternative alliances, Ghana is positioning itself as a diplomatic stabiliser and frontline state in the fight against extremism.

Mahama’s proposal seeks to restore coordination across political divides. Whether the plan gains traction will depend on funding, political trust and the willingness of Sahel states to re-engage with neighbours under a new framework. For now, Ghana is sending a clear signal: regional security is not optional, and fragmentation carries consequences no capital can afford to ignore.

⬆️ Ronaldo Rejects Claims Messi is Better: “I Don’t Agree”

By Ollus R. Ndomu

Cristiano Ronaldo has reignited football’s biggest rivalry, publicly rejecting the idea that Lionel Messi stands above him in the GOAT debate. Speaking in a new interview with Piers Morgan, the Al Nassr and Portugal captain was direct when asked about comparisons.

“They say Messi is better than you. What do you think?” Morgan asked.
Ronaldo did not hesitate. “Messi better than me? I don’t agree with that opinion. I don’t want to be humble,” he said.

His comments re-open a debate that has shaped modern football’s identity, from Champions League nights to World Cup storylines, from marketing wars to cultural allegiances across continents. Ronaldo framed his stance as confidence built on a legacy, not insecurity.

He also brushed aside comments from Wayne Rooney, who has previously said he prefers Messi. “It doesn’t bother me at all,” Ronaldo added, insisting that outside opinions do not shape his place in the sport’s history.

The interview arrives at a time when both icons are in new chapters: Messi building his influence in Major League Soccer with Inter Miami, and Ronaldo leading Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia’s ambitious football project. Between them, they hold twelve Ballon d’Or titles, countless records and a generation-defining rivalry that transcends leagues and nations.

Ronaldo’s remarks will fuel global debate once again. For football fans, the conversation remains as emotional as it is analytical, shaped by era, style and loyalty. For Ronaldo, the question is settled. For the world, it is far from over.

Tanzania is voting today in a climate defined by fear, silence, and control. More than 37 million registered voters are casting ballots in a general election that many observers say is already decided. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, 65, stands virtually unchallenged after her main opponents were jailed, disqualified, or driven underground. The polls mark her first electoral test since inheriting power in 2021 following the death of John Magufuli.

At first, Hassan was hailed as a reformer. She released political prisoners, reopened banned media houses, and promised dialogue with the opposition. But in four years, her administration....
