HMRC have announced a u-turn today on their MTD plans for sole traders.

Bookkeepers and accountants have spent huge amounts of time preparing for the change that was due to happen in April 2024. Sole traders and landlords were due to start completing 4 tax returns a year via software if their turnover was over £10k.

The news today is that HMRC do not have the technology ready to deal with this change so have delayed it yet again until April 2026. They have also increased the threshold to £50k instead of £10k. By April 2027 this threshold will reduce to £30k.

Sorry to have pestered everyone about switching to accounting software. I still firmly believe the automation that Xero brings is a huge asset to any business so would still advise switching if you can.

Great seeing our lovely client and their amazing concession in John Lewis, Solihull today have the most gorgeous smelling products that are just selling themselves! Definitely worth a visit!
