"The View of Windsor Castle from Eton Wick" - Wilfrid Huggins (1873-1949)

This delightful painting was gifted by the artist to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in memory of his late son Marsden (a former local councillor for Windsor), following his untimely death at the age of only 33. It was thought to be housed at the Windsor Guild Hall, however it was unable to be located.

Having been missing for many years, Tudor Marsden-Huggins (great-grandson of the artist) made it his mission to find the piece and have it rightfully displayed as intended by Wilfrid. Following countless phone calls, emails, visits etc, Tudor enlisted the help of Dr Brigitte Mitchell, a Windsor local, and member of the Windsor Historical Society. After an approximate 4 year search, the painting was finally found in the basement of the Maidenhead Town Hall.

Tudor (pictured) resides in Australia but during a visit to Maidenhead in January of 2019, he was able to have a private viewing to see the painting for the first time.

The piece was in need of repair and restoration, which Tudor committed to funding, to bring the painting back to its former glory. Restoration is currently underway and once it is completed, it is hoped that it will be hung in Windsor for the public to enjoy.

The proposed hotel will consist of 50 rooms with 49 car spaces, family restaurant and bar. It will fulfil the demand for affordable family overnight accommodation in the Windsor area, in line with the Windsor Tourism Plan. A work in progress since 2015, there have been several re-designs of the building in close consultation with the community to ensure the design compliments the local aesthetic.
