Under current rules, you can contribute £2,880 net into a pension for a child per financial year.

With tax relief, £3,600 would actually land in the pot.

I’d much rather he had more than less.

💸 I haven’t finalised my plan and I’m not sure what the future holds for me, so contributing to both a pension and an ISA keeps my options very open.

✨ Either bringing my retirement age forward and using the ISA as a bridge, or
✨ Using the ISA to increase the amount of tax free income I have during my retirement

I try to keep things as simple as I can. That way, it’s easy to keep on top of.

I have my current account, a savings account for short term goals and then four ‘investment’ products:

1️⃣ A S&S ISA
2️⃣ A personal pension
3️⃣ A JISA
4️⃣ A junior SIPP

All four have different rules, access arrangements, tax treatment, purpose.

💸 Planned strategically, I don’t think that’s too bad!

Of course, this video makes some assumptions:
• The post is still growing at 7% pa on average
• There is no escalation rate on income
• No PCLS has been taken
• Ongoing adviser charges and fund charges are deducted

What numbers shall I do next?

💸 You might actually be more comfortable than you think.

For this video, I’ve used Prudential’s retirement modeller and this is free to use. Check it out! Other providers are available and may use their own modelling system.

🧠 This just blows my mind!

Why didn’t I discover this sooner? But, I can’t change the past 💪🏽

I got into investing for the simple reason that I wanted to create a generational pattern in my family.

My 2 year old has had his pension running a while now, and here’s why:

1️⃣ Time: the longer the money can compound, the faster it can grow in later years
2️⃣ Tax: contributions to a personal pension are grossed up through tax relief
3️⃣ Security: … security
4️⃣ Inheritance: I’m a little selfish and just want to spend my money on myself, I think I’ll want to do this even more in the future when I have more free time

Pensions aren’t right for everyone. Research.

🔻My ISA has taken a massive hit too, and lost 10% in just a few weeks 🫣

Do you invest? Are you feeling the struggle?

⚖️ What’s the difference between gambling and investing?

Because plenty of people will lump their money on a bet, but see investing over the long term too much of a risk.

💡 I’ve lived a bit and I’ve LEARNED a lot.

I will never question spending money on ensuring that I travel conveniently and comfortably ✈️ 💺

I enjoy food, and splurge accordingly 🥘 🍔

I want my son to have freedom of choice. Don’t worry, he’ll be educated properly!

Is it too late?? ⏰

If you ask yourself, “Am I too old to start investing?” Or convince yourself that you’ve missed all the good times, it could be time to re-think that mindset!
