Welwyn Hatfield Community

Welwyn Hatfield Community Local community for local sleuthing... Bye the way, there are no affiliations to anyone or anything... political, financial, commercial, whatever!

Welwyn Hatfield Community was developed some 10 years ago to help promote local businesses, but I was the only one doing the promoting...!!! I was way ahead of Google... (he, he, he)... but I gave up as there was no interaction from local businesses for whatever reason... Anyway, perhaps this online, community activity may help local people survive living within local, Covid restrictions and may b

e ahead of Google, too. At 69 3/4 and disabled, I am having a Ms Marple moment, and have fallen upon a few local ambiguities that, as I ponder further on them, more have become apparent. My sleuthing evolved from a few simple things that grew from a few incidents that involved making my life easier and more comfortable... to way, way more complicated, local issues...

I am becoming overwhelmed with my pondering and now need the local community for communal pondering. Nothing... None whatsoever...!!!

Welwyn Hatfield Council... SURVEY... I hate surveys and haven't looked at this one yet... BUT NOW IS OUR CHANCE...!!!

Welwyn Hatfield Council posted this today:

"Dear Resident

Just in case you missed it .....

123,000 people. Seven questions. One future.

Last week we launched one of the most important Welwyn Hatfield conversations in a generation. Your Welwyn Hatfield asks residents, tenants, businesses, education providers, the voluntary sector, community groups, housing associations (and more) what matters to them the most, what they see to be the opportunities and challenges ahead, and what they like, or would change, about the borough. We also want to know whether we can improve the way we engage with our partners and communities.

You can take part online now at http://bit.ly/YourWelwynHatfield - or take a look at the questions and come back to them when you have given it some thought, and/or discussed it with colleagues.

We will be using the responses to the survey alongside a number of more in depth face-to-face (or screen-to-screen!) discussions over the next few weeks to help shape our priorities for the next three years. They will also guide the wider work we are doing with local partners on setting a shared vision for the borough for the next 20-30 years.
"

PLEASE DO IT TO HELP US ALL...

Thank you,
MsMarpleWGC

Cost-cutting is almost expected these days, and Welwyn Hatfield Council are no exception... But are they being short-changed by their contractors...???

I must write this down, for the next time my iPad locks up... Why it isn't in the iPad manual, I have no idea... Power off then back on, do not access internet - go to settings -safari - scroll down to Clear History and website data... and it's done... :D

In response to a message, we are not in a position to help with finding accommodation... However I do suggest that you have left it far too late to find anyway for 16 June 2015, that's just 4 days time...

This is the reply made by Welwyn Hafield Borough Council on Facebook today...

"That's most definitely not the case. A lot is taking place to ensure the future vitality of the town centre - for example, we're investing £2.65m in refurbishment works, and have worked on a successful bid to the LEP for £6m (which will be available from 2019/20).

We're keen to retain the existing businesses where we can, but we also have a duty to ensure that we obtain market value. As reported in the WH Times this week, some traders have not had a rent review in over a decade - if someone occupies a unit at a rent significantly below the market rate, the council taxpayer is effectively subsidising their private business.

We've based the renewed rents on actual transactions in Hatfield where there is a real demand for our units (to clarify that a little, the new units at the end of The Arcade and on the site of the former Bill Salmon Centre are owned and being marketed by St Modwen, not us).

Two new lettings are in solicitors hands and a further letting has just completed. In addition to the £2.65m of refurbishment work we're undertaking, discussions are taking place about the longer term future of Hatfield. In short, a lot of good things are happening in the town, and we will be working with a wide range of stakeholders - including local businesses and residents - to keep that momentum going."
