A big Shout to all the participants at this year’s boat races, With Record number of entrants in both youth and adult categories, it led to a very busy day of competitive racing, in quite hot conditions.

It was nice to see such big crowds again, and hope everyone enjoyed the day.

Thanks, must also be extended to those unsung heroes, who work tirelessly on the day, including the Loading team. Water safety Crew, the Stewards, First aiders, plus many others, many of these people are out and about a long time before races start setting up, and stay late after ensuring everything is packed away, and nothing is left behind.

Once again, a Big thank you, for such another wonderful day at Races, See you next year.

Whilst the committee are already preparing for this years races, Are you?

It is never to early to start building your boats.

If you are new to boat racing, it can be a struggle to get started, however to help a team out we have a boat available, which has been used in the past, but is now looking for a new home. (It will probably need a bit of work to make sure it is safe to race)

[EDIT: This boat has now been re-homed]

Thanks
Nathan

The Mayor attended the Awards Ceremony for the Wells Moat Boat Race on Sunday 13th October at Wells Football Club. Held annually on August Bank Holiday Monday, the races saw perfect weather conditions this year, drawing one of the largest crowds in recent memory.

The Mayor is shown here with two members of the 'Pirates of the Full Moon', team who continued their winning streak and took home the lion’s share of the trophies!

The 'Thomas the Tank' raft, created by the Likely Lads team, won the best raft trophy in the senior category and in the junior section, the Wells and Glastonbury Young Farmers Club's 'Floating Bull Calves' took the top award.

The Mayor would like to thank the organisers of the Wells Moat Boat Race and Awards, the City of Wells Lions, the local businesses who supported the event, the water safety team and St. John’s Ambulance who provided the First Aid Services on the day as well as agreeing to have the Mayor as a team member in their boat!

Next Weekend, we have our presentation night awarding Participant medals to all those that competed, as well as cups and Trophies to the winners on the day.

Everyone is welcome, and commences from 7pm for a 7:30pm Start.

If any one is interested in helping out on the day or participating next year and not sure how to go about it, come along and have a chat with the organisers or some of the Veteran teams, who will be happy to give you some pointers in getting involved.

Don't expect the Teams to give many of their Top secret Designs away though...
