From May 14, 2025, agents must conduct Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks on all prospective tenants, guarantors, and landlords, reporting any PEPs or sanctions to the OFSI. The crackdown has begun, and the government is actively naming and shaming those agents who have failed to comply. What is deemed to be an acceptable AML check as outlined by the FCA, first the individual must pass ID verification and then assuming they are who they say they are can be checked against the various sanctions list.
