Rhubarb leaves are now out of the kiln 💚
They all survived 😁
I love the dark green with subtle hint of redness in the veins, but I’m looking to invest in a lighter leaf green as an alternative when I make my next batch.
It’s very difficult to photograph them without getting glare on one or more.

Glazing the rhubarb leaves, red underglaze all over, two layers which will be wiped off later once dry. This will hopefully mean the veins will give the green a reddish tinge.
The red underglaze is carefully sponged off so the detail is still visible. Wait to dry again.
Finally 3 layers of the rainforest glaze are applied which will highlight the veins.
Before loading into the kiln I need to wipe any glaze off the bottom where it would touch the kiln shelf. If any glaze is left, it would fuse onto the shelf during firing and stick, ruining the item and the shelf!

All these items have been bisque fired to 1000C which takes about 9 hours. They are porous and ready to glaze 😊
I won’t be able to fit everything into the kiln for the glaze firing as@ pieces can’t touch. The glaze melts on the surface so if two pieces touch they will stick together. The glaze firing goes to 1210C for 10 minutes. It takes about 12 hours. Cooling down takes the same amount of time or even longer. Opening early risks the hot pieces cooling too quickly and cracking.
Now to decide what to glaze and take to Masham craft fair on 9th and 10th May 🤔😊

As well as the Liquorice festival there’s a craft fair (free entry) in the Town Hall. ROKware will be there 🤞🏻along with Bags of Difference.
Hope to see some of you there 😊

Experimenting again 🥰
This effect is called ‘frozen pond’ 3 layers of base glaze, two layers of spots and dots in the magic glaze 😂 then two layers all over of the top glaze.
Different base and top glazes give different colours.

Just a quick share of the Hepworth ceramic fair page and to let you know that the Chantry chapel won’t be running a craft fair to coincide with this Hepworth event but all being well, ROKware will be at the next Chantry Chapel fair in June when the Hepworth has it’s print fair.
I’ll update this page with details later.
Meanwhile I’m waiting for the kiln to cool down - it wont be cool enough to open it until tomorrow 😩

The Hepworth Wakefield Ceramics Fair - the go-to place to discover all things pottery - returns later this month!
