💼 The French stock market was rocked by renewed political uncertainty last week, after the prime minister Francois Bayrou called a snap vote of confidence for next month. The CAC 40 (a benchmark for the French stock market), dropped immediately, and ended the week down almost 3%.

📊The Institute for Public Policy Research urged a windfall tax on bank profits Friday. Such a tax could raise up to £8 billion a year for Chancellor Rachel Reeves. Bank shares fell, dragging the FTSE 100 down 1%.

💼 Speaking on Wednesday, President Trump announced a minimum tariff of 10% on nearly every country, including the UK.

📊 Over the course of the week the FTSE 100 fell 6.97%, with the MSCI Europe excluding UK Index dropping 6.95%. The Japanese Nikkei 225 declined 6.01%, and in the US, the S&P 500 and NASDAQ ended the week down 9.05% and 10.0%, respectively.

Money can be pretty overwhelming so here’s a summary of a Financial to do list 📋

The link will provide much more detail on each point.

✅ Set some short, medium and long term goals. For example, saving for a wedding, holiday, kids university fees or retirement.
✅ Work out how much you’re worth. Do you have an emergency fund for when life throws a curve ball?
✅ Have you considered pension pots you might have from previous jobs?
✅ If nearing retirement age, have you checked your state pension forecast?
✅ Are you, your loved ones and your lifestyle protected? An insurance policy could literally be a lifesaver.
✅ Think about the legacy you want to leave, and to whom. Hopefully that time is a long way off, but small steps, taken early, can make a big difference to your family.
✅ Make a Will, especially if you have children, or your family situation changes.
✅ Set up a Power of Attorney. A PoA means that someone you trust can make financial or welfare decisions on your behalf if you lose mental or physical capacity.
