Enclosed fields and why I love them! 🐾
I only use enclosed fields on Fridays, as this is the day I have dogs that might need a little more assistance with socialising in a safe, enclosed space.
Enclosed fields have helped me socialise dogs that wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity to do so out in public.
I also wanted to shed a little light on the seriousness of having dogs that can be a little crazy when they’re out and about!
If a dog were to trip someone over and cause them to break their leg, or run into someone and cause them to break a finger, there could be serious consequences. Depending on the circumstances, the dog could be considered dangerously out of control, potentially resulting in restrictions on being off lead in public.
Part of being a responsible dog walker is knowing when to make that decision. Whether that’s recognising that a dog needs a safe, enclosed environment to socialise, or that they aren’t quite ready to socialise with other dogs without the help of a dog trainer.
Enclosed fields have also helped me develop my understanding of dogs’ body language and recognise when play is healthy, even when it might look a little rough! It’s given me the confidence to know when to intervene and when to let dogs enjoy themselves.
And the dogs absolutely love it! Having the freedom to roam, sniff, wee, chase, play and do whatever their hearts desire for the 50–55 minutes we have the field to ourselves.
The two fields I mainly choose to visit are:
🐾 Windhover Walkies
🐾 Bill’s Place at Ashingdon Heights Kennels
Both give the dogs the opportunity to enjoy themselves in a safe environment, which is exactly why I love using them!
