eam and here I am, living in Cumbria and helping others to achieve theirs too. Who knew that bookkeeping and business finances could be so rewarding! I love helping people and training for me is my passion, it’s something I really enjoy, sharing my knowledge and expertise having been a bookkeeper for nearly 40 years brings me so much joy. I love helping those in business with their numbers. As a business owner myself, I’m passionate about helping others to not only organise, but understand the numbers in their business. Understanding the numbers enables you have the clarity to make the important decisions to help your business grow. Bookkeeping isn’t just about crunching numbers, keeping records, and submitting your tax return every year, it’s about all the big stuff you can do once you know your numbers and have all the financial information you need at your fingertips. Technically, as a sole trader, you are not legally required to have a separate business bank account.

But honestly? You really, really should.

Here's why.

When your business and personal money are mixed together, it becomes really difficult to see what your business is actually earning and spending. Which makes bookkeeping harder, self-assessment trickier and understanding your numbers almost impossible.

A separate account takes about 20 minutes to open. And it will save you hours of untangling every single year.

It also makes you look and feel more like a proper business. Which you are. 💜

Did you miss the MTD for Income Tax filing deadline on 7th August? Don't panic, you're not in trouble 💜

If you're a sole trader or landlord who was meant to start Making Tax Digital this April and the first quarterly update deadline (7th August) has sailed past, please don't worry.

I want to reassure you. As this is year one, HMRC won't issue penalty points or fines for late quarterly updates in 2026/27. Even if the next one (7th November) catches you out too, you won't be fined. You've got breathing room.

This April's start applies if your qualifying income from self-employment and property in 2024-25 was over £50,000. So if you're not sure whether this is you yet, just ask.

And please don't ignore it. Here's what I encourage you to do:

✅ Get signed up for MTD if you haven't already
✅ Enter your income and expenses for the quarter (6th April to 5th July)
✅ Connect your bank feed, then check everything's categorised correctly and submit

The one deadline that will still get you is your Self Assessment tax return for 2025/26, due 31st January 2027. If you miss that the usual late filing penalties apply, so keep it firmly in the diary.

If your tummy flips at the words "Making Tax Digital," you're not on your own, and this is exactly what I help with. A Power Hour is often all it takes to go from panicking to sorted.

Feeling behind? Message me MTD and we'll get you calm and clear.

Sue 💜

Self-assessment. Two words that make a lot of small business owners break out in a cold sweat.

But it doesn't have to be scary. Here's what it actually means in plain English.

If you're self-employed, HMRC needs to know how much you've earned so they can work out how much tax you owe. Self-assessment is simply the way you tell them. Once a year, online, by 31st January.

That's it. No complicated forms. No mystery. Just your income, your expenses and what's left over.

The scary bit is usually leaving it too long and not knowing your numbers well enough to fill it in confidently. That's where I come in.

If self-assessment feels overwhelming, drop HELP in the comments and let's chat. 💜

I've been getting everything ready for Thursday and it's had me thinking about all the messages I've had over the years from small business owners saying some version of "I'll sort my bookkeeping properly one day."

Thursday could just be that day.

Not because you'll magically become an accountant by 11am. But because you'll finally have a plan, instead of a vague sense of dread every time the subject comes up.

One hour, completely free.
Thursday 13th August 2026

Bookkeeping Breakthrough Webinar Q&A.

A few things people have asked me ahead of Thursday's free bookkeeping webinar.

"What if I can't make it live?" There's a replay, so you genuinely won't miss anything.

"What if I'm embarrassingly behind on my bookkeeping?" Even more reason to come. There is no judgement here. I promise you, I've seen it all, sole traders, small business owners, all sorts.

"Will it be full of jargon I don't understand?" Not a chance. If anything gets technical, I'll translate it.

"Is it really free?" Yes. Completely.

42 years in bookkeeping and business finance has taught me one thing: it's never really about the numbers.

It's about the fear that builds up around them.

I work with creative women in business, sole traders, small business owners, brilliant at their craft and completely overwhelmed by the finance side.

The ones who'll happily talk for hours about their work, then go quiet the second money comes up.

If that's you, this is your sign.

This is for you if:

✨ You're a sole trader or small business owner
✨ You avoid your bookkeeping more than you'd like to admit
✨ You're ready for your bookkeeping breakthrough feeling in control of your money instead of scared of it.

Free webinar, Thursday 13th August. One hour, live on Zoom, replay included.
