🤓We are told that the trick is to stay invested and ignore fluctuations in the financial markets...

🤔BUT conflict in the Middle East has created another wave of predictions about inflation, fuel prices and interest rates.

And I've noticed something about myself lately.
I keep checking what people think the next Bank of England decision will be.
Which is unusual - not because I don't care about economics. I do.

But because I normally focus on the bigger picture rather than trying to predict every twist and turn.

The strange thing is, even if I knew exactly what the next decision would be, it probably wouldn't change much.

Yet with headlines changing from ceasefire... to strikes... to ceasefire... to strikes again, I still find myself checking.

Maybe that's the challenge of modern media - There is always another opinion to read.
Another prediction.
Another expert.

🤨Every year it feels like another rule gets added.

I've been reading about the latest rumours surrounding ISA changes and potential taxation of cash held within Stocks & Shares ISAs.

Whether these changes happen or not, it got me thinking.
Many business owners spend years trying to do the right thing:
• Building wealth
• Saving consistently
• Planning for retirement

Only to find the rules seem to change every few years.

One of the reasons I believe planning matters so much is because none of us can control what future governments decide to do. We can only control the decisions we're making today.

A couple of weeks ago I was at an IFA event with Octopus Investments and one of question really stuck with me (nothing to do with actual training by the way!)

❓Who actually runs the country now? The government… the media… or public opinion through social media?

The discussion around the room was fascinating because so many people are following politics and economic news almost minute by minute at the moment and honestly, I’m trying not to...

🤯Between running a business, being present for my family and trying to look after my own health, I really do not want to spend my evenings stressed by the news cycle too
