Bank Holiday Monday Amp Customisation completion. This was a nonworking Laney AOR 30 which is one of the most underrated amps around. Service recap and a few simple mods 1) add another treble peaking stage like the AOR 50 and 100 had (not sure why they left it off the 30) this makes the play off between Preamp 1 and 2 volume controls a lot more useful with one and more girth the other more top. 2) Remove the rectifier diodes off the main PCB and mount them on the chassis. This is because Laney put the discrete diodes between the op amp effects look and reverb circuits and the main preamp with tracks going right past the rectifier diodes.. crazy!. 3) The other issue with the AOR 30 is that it is dog ugly in a nasty chip board box.. so I repurposed an old nicely made Peavey combo cab to take her together with a rather nice old G12H I had lying around. 4) Added a choke and upgraded the output transformer. Full recap. 5) Put the power switched on the front and added an IEC socket on the back. 6) put the reverb connectors in a better location as the original place would not work with the new cab 7) Full length reverb tank used (not a bad sounding reverb). 8) Nice new k***s (hate the old Laney ones). She sounds lovely (but really sounded pretty good before!). More like 20 Watts than the marketed 30 Watts but she is plenty loud enough to take on a drummer. Sweet little rock amp!
