Claim.your £120 'boiler tax' back. If you had a boiler fitted after 1st Jan this year, there is a good chance you paid a ‘boiler tax’.

We estimate about half a million households are entitled to a refund of up to £120 from their gas boiler manufacturer.

Britain’s top four boilermakers – Baxi, Ideal, Worcester Bosch and Vaillant/Glow-Worm – increased the price of all their boilers from January in anticipation of a new government policy to incentivise heat pump sales. But the policy has been pushed to 2025

Trade merchant, Wolsely, recently announced they will automatically refund installers who paid the tax on their boiler purchases

However consumers are reliant on installers refunding them. Other trade merchants have not made similar any announcements.

We're calling on boiler manufacturers to proactively contact customers who have registered their boiler warranty with them this year.

In the meantime, our step-by-step guide can help households to approach their installer or boiler manufacturer

If you're thinking about fitting a heat pump, know that size is everything! Most homes need 6-8kW of power from their heating system on a cold day. But the average heat pump fitted is 10kW. The cost of oversizing is:
Financial: £1,381 (NB this is at 0% VAT)
Physical: the outside unit is twice as big
Ongoing: the heat pump will cycle and cost more to run

In 2020 I used 14,167kWh of gas. I increased loft insulation, draught proofed, blocked an open fire place, upsized some radiators AND optimised my boiler and heating controls. This has cut my gas use by 50% to 6,942kWh pa!

A new boiler would cost x4 more for little benefit. There is SO much value is low cost changes. Just FYI Our Mini Roadmap plans are designed to maximise the small wins to reduce energy bills now and get ready for a low carbon future. We can help you too.
