7 years today šŸ¤

Seven years of business.

& as I write that, I’m sat with my laptop during the summer holidays, juggling work around three children, family life and a few days WFH…

Also means ā€˜Working From Holiday’ šŸļø

Because this laptop travels worldwide with me šŸŒ

& so does my 4am body clock and early starts šŸ˜‚

Even when we’re away, I’ll be up before the sun, laptop open, getting a few hours in while our three children sleep.

But that really sums up what these seven years have been about.

I didn’t build a business to escape my life.

I built a business that fits around the life I wanted and will continue to make, whilst seeing the world with my team.

A business that allowed me to be a mum, a wife, a friend, to be present for the important things and still be ambitious about what I wanted to create.

It has provided for my family, taken us around the world and brought some bloody amazing people into my life, through clients into friends, meeting people in networking circles who just get it. Forever grateful for the people I’ve met.

I’ve worked with incredible clients, supported businesses through huge decisions and taught so many business owners & college students to the importance of understanding the financial side of business.

I’ve always believed in the 7-year rule.

If you make it to seven years and still love what you do, it’s the forever plan ā™¾ļø

Well… here we are.

With absolutely no intention of stopping.

The next chapter is about growing what I’ve built and creating more spaces to help people understand their money, in business and in their personal lives.

To challenge money mindsets.
To make better financial choices.
And ultimately, to build businesses that do what they were supposed to do in the first place…

Support and fund the life you actually want to live.

Seven years of early mornings, motherhood, learning, growing, supporting, teaching and figuring it out as I went.

And through all of it, one thing hasn’t changed:

I bloody love what I do. šŸ¤

Here’s to year 8.

& to building the forever plan šŸ„‚

🚨 10 things business owners get wrong about tax…

These are some of the most common misconceptions I hear every week, and they often end up costing business owners time, money and unnecessary stress.

The truth is, good tax planning isn’t about finding loopholes, it’s about understanding the rules and keeping good records throughout the year.

A few simple habits can make a huge difference:
āœ”ļø Keep your bookkeeping up to date.
āœ”ļø Put money aside for tax regularly.
āœ”ļø Don’t assume something is claimable because you saw it online.
āœ”ļø Ask questions before making expensive decisions.

Which one surprised you the most?

🚨 This might be my most unpopular opinion as an accountant…

Most people celebrate turnover.

I celebrate profit.

I’d rather see a business owner earning more, working less and actually enjoying their life than chasing a huge turnover with tiny margins.

There’s no right or wrong answer here, but I’m genuinely interested…

šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ SELF-EMPLOYED?

Most business owners know what they earn…

But very few know what they actually keep after tax.

Understanding your numbers isn’t about paying less tax at all costs, it’s about making better financial decisions and planning ahead.

These figures are a guide only and will vary depending on your individual circumstances.

šŸ’¬ Which profit band are you aiming for this year?

Figures are approximate and based on standard UK self-employed tax rates. Individual circumstances will vary.

Nobody starts a business because they dream of spreadsheets.

They start because they want more freedom.
More flexibility.
More time with their family.
More choice.

But somewhere along the way, it’s easy to get caught up chasing turnover instead of building a business that actually supports your life.

These are five lessons I wish every business owner understood sooner, not because they’re complicated, but because they make a huge difference.

✨ Manage your money before it manages you.

I’d love to know…

When people talk about salary, they’re usually talking about the headline figure.

But what really matters is how much ends up in your bank account after tax.

This shows how different UK salaries can look once Income Tax and National Insurance have been deducted, this is a rough guide and not exact to include pension & other deductions to fit every individuals situation.

Understanding your take-home pay can help with budgeting, saving and planning for the future.

šŸ’¬ Which salary surprised you the most?

A little behind the scenes of how I pay myself as a limited company owner.

One of the biggest shifts I’ve made over the last few years is investing more into myself and more into my future.

Instead, I try to balance paying present me and future me.

That means thinking about things like pensions, childcare support, dividends, tax planning and investing in myself.

None of these decisions are particularly exciting on their own, but together they’re helping me build something bigger:

✨ More security

✨ More flexibility

✨ More choices

✨ More financial freedom

This is simply what works for me and isn’t tax, legal or financial advice.

Every business owner’s situation is different.

What’s one money habit that’s helped you most in business?

šŸ’ Ever wondered why your business is making more money, but you don’t feel any better off?

It’s something I see all the time with business owners.

Sales increase, more money starts coming in, but somehow it still feels like there’s never quite enough left over.

The reason?

As businesses grow, so do costs.

More sales can mean more expenses, more tax, more subscriptions, more marketing and more overheads.

That’s why I always encourage business owners to look beyond turnover and focus on profit.

Because profit is what pays you.

Profit is what creates financial freedom.

And profit is what allows your business to grow sustainably.

✨ The goal isn’t just to make more money. It’s to keep more of it.

šŸ’¬ Tell me below: Do you know how much profit your business made last month?

A reminder that you don’t have to choose.

You can be present for your children.
You can build a successful business.
You can chase your goals.
You can create financial freedom. We are proof you can.

Not because it’s easy.
Not because you have more hours in the day.

But because you’re willing to keep showing up.

As women, we’re often told we have to pick one path.

Family or ambition.
Motherhood or business.
Success or balance.

The truth?

You get to define success for yourself.

This incredible client is proof that your dreams don’t disappear when you become a mum.

If anything, they become even more important.

Tag a mum in business who needs to see this ā¤ļø

Quick question…

Could you answer these 5 questions about your business in under 30 seconds?

šŸ’° How much profit have you made?
šŸ“‹ How much tax have you set aside?
šŸ“© Who still owes you money?
šŸ’· What are your monthly costs?
šŸ“ˆ How long could your business survive without new sales?

If not, it might be time for a financial check-up.

The most successful business owners don’t just track sales, they understand their numbers.
