We’d like to introduce you all to Rio.
With many of us having children of a similar age, Rio’s story really hit us after learning that sadly - he has been diagnosed with cancer. His story is really worth a moment of your time if you could indulge us…
Rio at the age of three was diagnosed with a rare type of kidney cancer; Wilms tumour. Only around 80 children are diagnosed with it in the UK each year.
After recent surgery the pathology results from the tumour they removed was unfortunately not the news his family were hoping for or expecting. The histology is unfavourable & high risk (only a tiny percentage of all Wilms tumours fall into this category)
This news changed everything. It means that Rio will need at least another 9 months of treatment. His chemotherapy is much more intense that it was initially & he’ll need radiotherapy to his lungs too.
We are SO proud of him, his family and friends for the love and strength they are showing one another! Rio has been through far too much already & a lot more to come but still he continues to smile & sing his way through this hideous disease.
It is not known where this journey will take Rio. If Rio is cured at the end of his NHS treatment & gets to ring that beloved bell; there’s still no promise he is cured for good and the cancer could return and Rio may need to explore treatment elsewhere.
We all live in hope that this will never happen but if it does, their consultant explained that a pot of fundraising money is an excellent way of paying for further treatment available in other countries.
So, that’s where we come in.
This month we will be donating a sum of money for EVERY mortgage that we do. We’ll also be supporting the vast array of other fundraising taking place for Rio - and we’d love it if you could too!
