For those who have been forced to leave their homes, we wanted to share one practical reminder that may help.

Many home insurance policies include alternative accommodation cover where your home has become unsafe or uninhabitable following an insured event.

If you’ve been displaced, contact your home insurance provider as soon as possible. They can confirm the cover available under your individual policy and explain what support they may be able to provide while you’re unable to return home.

Where possible, also keep receipts for any emergency expenses and a record of any damage and conversations with your insurer.

Most importantly, stay safe and follow the advice of the emergency services.
