The humble seat belt has saved more than 1million lives worldwide and it’s the only road safety innovation that F1 adopted from road-going cars.

1958: The two-point lap belt was developed by Swedish aviation engineer Nils Bohlin for Saab.
1959: He was poached by Volvo for whom he designed the three-point harness.
1965: Seat belts become standard in all new cars in the UK
1983: Wearing a seatbelt becomes compulsory - but only for front-seat passengers
1991: The law expands: all passengers must wear seat belts
2006: Child car seats become a legal requirement, reinforcing safety for the most vulnerable.

Do you remember when wearing one became second nature? 🤨
