⚠️ Protection isn't one size fits all. ⚠️

One of the biggest misconceptions about financial protection is that there is one solution that covers everything.

The reality is that different types of protection are designed to support different risks.

➡️ Income Protection
Can provide a regular income if illness or injury affects your ability to work.

➡️ Critical Illness Cover
Can provide a lump sum if you are diagnosed with certain conditions covered by the policy.

➡️ Life Insurance
Can provide financial support for the people who depend on you if you die.

None of these are about buying a product for the sake of it.

They are about understanding what risks exist in your own life, your career and your circumstances.

That is why financial protection should never be one-size-fits-all.

Understanding your options is the first step.

Because life doesn't always follow the script.

The Financial Stage Door: The Income Protection Synopsis

A practical guide to what it is, what it does and where it fits.

Your ability to earn is one of your biggest assets.

For many people working across the performing and creative industries, income is closely linked to their skills, experience and ability to do the work they love.

But what happens if illness or injury means you can’t?

Income Protection is one option designed to help provide financial support if you are unable to work.

It’s a type of protection that is often misunderstood, so I wanted to create a simple guide giving you an overview of what it is, what it does and how it works.

One thing I’ve learned from working with people across the creative industries is that every career is different.

A performer, a producer, a technician, a musician and an administrator may all work within the same industry - but their circumstances can look completely different.

That’s why understanding your options matters.

The Financial Stage Door Synopsis series is about opening up conversations around financial protection and making information more accessible for people working in the arts.

No jargon.
No assumptions.
Just education.

Because your career may not always follow a traditional path.
And life doesn't always follow the script. 🎭

As soon as I heard Waitress was coming to Southend, I knew I had to go!!

I loved it when I saw it in London, so it was the perfect excuse for a girls' day by the sea.

The Cliffs Pavilion is one of my favourite theatres anyway. The views over the estuary are beautiful, and grabbing a ice cream before heading in is basically part of the experience. 🍦

was brilliant, infact the whole cast were fantastic, and I absolutely loved being back at the diner. I got to see the alternative ending, which I'd never seen before, so it felt like watching a familiar show with a little surprise thrown in.

Safe to say I'd happily book tickets all over again. ❤️🎭

Have you seen Waitress? Who was your favourite Jenna? If you haven't caught up with the tour yet make sure you grab tickets for a venue near you!!

So... what happens if you can't work?

It's not a question many of us like to think about.

Especially when you're busy focusing on the next audition, the next contract, the next production or the next client.

But for many people working across the performing and creative industries, if we stop working, our income can stop too.

For some people, the answer might be savings.

For others, it might be family support.

Some may be able to rely on employer benefits.

Others might look to industry charities or grants.

And for some, Income Protection could form part of that plan.

There isn't one right answer.

The important thing is having thought about the question before life asks it for you.

Because planning isn't about expecting the worst.

It's about giving yourself options.

If someone asked you today what your financial plan would be if you couldn't work, would you know the answer?

We spend years building our careers.

Training.
Auditioning.
Learning new skills.
Building relationships.
Finding the next contract.
Growing our reputation.

Whether you're performing on stage, calling a show, directing, producing, designing, teaching or freelancing, your career is built on something incredibly valuable...

YOU! 🫵

Your skills.
Your experience.
Your creativity.
Your ability to turn up and do what you do best.

Yet many of us spend far more time planning our next job than thinking about what would happen if we couldn't do it for a while.

That's not about expecting the worst.

It's about recognising that your ability to earn is one of your greatest assets.

Planning isn't pessimistic.

It's practical.

I'm not here to tell you what your plan should be.

I'm here to help you understand the options available, so you can make the decision that's right for you.

Because life doesn't always follow the script.

I recently met Graham Simons at the Women in Protection conference and we got talking about my passion to educate the performing arts industry on the need to consider protection. He offered to feature me in Healthcare & Protection's Introducing... series.

The article touches on that journey, along with some of the influences that have shaped my thinking along the way - Victoria Cuomo Stretton Dani Wallace and the IATQB Hive.

GOD THEY'RE BRILLIANT!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I finally got to see Operation Mincemeat last week after winning the ticket lottery... and I LOVED IT!

This cast worked their absolute butts off. The energy never dropped, the transitions were so slick, and I spent half the show wanting to sneak into the wings just to see how on earth it all worked behind the scenes! The backstage crew must have been working just as hard!

Everyone was amazing but stand out for me were and 👏

Already looking at when I can book to go again...

It's not a question many of us like thinking about.

But it's one worth asking.

Would you rely on savings?

Family?

Your partner?

A charity?

Insurance?

There isn't a right or wrong answer.

My goal isn't to tell you what your plan should be.

It's to encourage you to think about whether you have one and to open up the conversation about the options that are out there.

Because life doesn't always follow the script.

👇 I'd love to hear your thoughts.
