We’ve reached Rome and then some!🚶‍♀️

At the start of our 'Sheffield Mutual Goes the Distance' challenge, the goal was to collectively walk 1.7 million metres - roughly the distance from Sheffield to Rome.

The team at Sheffield Mutual surpassed the target by the end of week two and have ended up totalling more than 4.4 million metres in July.

A distance equivalent to walking from Sheffield to Cairo!

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part, shared photos and supported the challenge.

Alongside the fantastic efforts of the team, Sheffield Mutual is proud to be making a corporate donation to Independent Age as part of our ongoing partnership.

Where did your steps take you? 🚶‍♀️‍➡️

One of the best parts of our challenge has been seeing all the places our team have explored.

From holidays and festivals to football tournaments, countryside walks, family adventures and four-legged walking companions, every journey is helping Sheffield Mutual get one step closer to Rome.

While we’re enjoying the journey, we’re also helping raise awareness of the 1.7 million older people currently living in poverty and supporting Independent Age’s work to ensure more people can enjoy later life with dignity, independence and financial security.

Here are a few of our favourite moments from the challenge so far.

We’ve reached Paris!

Together we’ve now walked 1,138,053 metres on our journey from Sheffield to Rome.

Every step is helping us raise awareness of the 1.7 million older people currently living in poverty in the UK, while supporting Independent Age's work with older people experiencing or at risk of financial hardship.

A huge thank you to everyone taking part and sharing where their steps have taken them.

Next stop… Rome!

Sheffield Mutual Goes the Distance 🚶‍♂️‍➡️

This July we’re aiming to collectively walk 1.7 million metres in support of Independent Age

Why 1.7 million?

Because around 1.7 million older people - around 14% of the older population - are currently estimated to be living in poverty in the UK.

At Sheffield Mutual, helping people build financial security is at the heart of what we do. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Independent Age, supporting their work with older people experiencing or at risk of financial hardship.

Our challenge?

To walk 1.7 million metres - roughly the distance from Sheffield to Rome.

Throughout July we’ll be tracking our virtual journey, sharing where our colleagues’ steps take them and raising awareness of an issue that could affect even more people in the future if nothing changes.
