Andy Reid MBE - Standing Tall Foundation

Andy Reid MBE - Standing Tall Foundation In October 2009, Corporal Andy Reid MBE stepped on a Taliban improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

The Standing Tall Foundation promote the mental and physical health of all community groups through the provision of counselling, addiction support, Housing and Benefits advice and physical activity initiatives. Injured so badly that it was thought he would not survive, he defied the odds to the extent that, within a month, he was able to meet up with members of his patrol again. Since then as a t

riple amputee, he has gone on to carry out many arduous challenges to raise money and give back to the associations that helped him and his family through difficult times. To assist him in his endeavours, Andy set up the Standing Tall Foundation in March of 2020, perhaps the worst time in modern history to do so. With little in the way of resources and funding he set about assisting people on an individual basis. Along the way he tackled homelessness, attempted suicide, job loss, depression and various mental health scenarios, much of it at his own expense and time. Each fresh case presented a whole new set of circumstances to deal with and resolve or put measures in place to help. The Standing Tall Foundation has now evolved, and promotes the mental and physical health of all community groups through the provision of counselling, addiction support and physical activity initiatives. We further extend this support into the community to help those in financial hardship, including the homeless, via the provision of grants, items and services using the resources secured by the Foundation or those made available to us.

Every testimonial we receive is a reminder of why the Standing Tall Foundation exists.

What began as support with a housing application became so much more. Alongside helping secure a new tenancy and assisting with transferring utilities and bills, our team was able to connect this individual with counselling to help process the grief of losing both parents.

This is the power of having 360-degree support all under one roof.

We understand that life’s challenges rarely come one at a time. Housing insecurity, financial pressures, poor mental health, addiction, and physical wellbeing are often interconnected. That’s why we provide a safe, welcoming, and non-judgemental environment where people can access the support they need in one place, without having to navigate multiple services alone.

Our holistic approach includes:
🏠 Housing and tenancy support
💷 Benefits and welfare guidance
🧠 Mental health and counselling services
💙 Addiction support
💪 Physical health and wellbeing initiatives

By addressing the whole person not just one problem, we help people move from surviving to thriving.

To everyone who supports our work, thank you. Together, we’re changing lives, one person at a time.

“It was so comforting to see different services all under the same roof.”
That’s exactly what we’re here to provide. ❤️

What an absolute privilege it was for William Andrew Reid and Charlie Eke to present the Standing Tall Award last night at the Rainford Ladies Athletic FC Annual Awards to a truly deserving recipient, Louise Austin.

Louise’s story is one of extraordinary courage, resilience, and selflessness. While battling breast cancer and undergoing multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, she never lost sight of her commitment to her Under 12 girls team. Even during the toughest days of her treatment, she continued to support and inspire the players, showing them what true strength and determination look like.

Her dedication helped guide the team to league success, but her greatest achievement has been the life lessons she has given these young girls, teaching them resilience, positivity, commitment, and the importance of never giving up, no matter the challenges life presents.

Louise is far more than a coach; she is a role model, an inspiration, and the very definition of what it means to stand tall in the face of adversity.

Congratulations, Louise. Your bravery and unwavering commitment have touched so many lives, and we are honoured to recognise you with the Standing Tall Award. ❤️🏆

Two community groups set to take up former leisure centre

A collaboration between the Andy Reid MBE - Standing Tall Foundation and Saints Community Sport CIC has been confirmed as the party recommended to take up the lease of the former Broadway Leisure Centre as part of St Helens Borough Council's Community Asset Transfer policy.

Community Asset Transfer is a process that allows community organisations to take over council-owned land or buildings, enabling them to play a more active role in helping deliver a better borough.

Lisa Harris, Executive Director for Place Services, said: "We are delighted to be able to move forward with the plans to transfer this facility back into the hands of community groups who are committed to delivering a range of services for our residents. Through our Community Asset Transfer policy we have a transparent process in place to help us choose the suitable organisations who have proven they have a robust business model in place to be able to deliver their services from the land and/or buildings. These two organisations coming together have demonstrated a clear commitment to the community and that will unlock great opportunities for residents across the borough."

The former Broadway Leisure Centre is the last location of the first tranche of sites that have been through the community asset transfer process, with Bishop Road Playing Field in Windlehurst and King George V Playing Fields in Earlestown having been approved for community leases last year.

The Broadway opportunity had initially received several bids when first put forward last year but individually these did not meet the published criteria; however, subsequent collaboration between two of those bidders - The Standing Tall Foundation and Saints Community Sport CIC - has achieved a successful outcome.

The formal process to hand the lease of the site over will now start after Cabinet approved the proposals at its meeting on Wednesday, 3rd June.

We are absolutely delighted that Standing Tall Foundation, in collaboration with Saints Community Sports CIC, has been granted the Community Asset Transfer of the former Broadway Leisure Centre.

This has been a long journey, with an incredible amount of hard work, dedication, collaboration and belief from everyone involved to get this over the line.

We are proud and excited to have reached this important milestone.

This opportunity will help secure a sustainable future for the Foundation, allowing us to evolve, expand and continue supporting even more people across our communities. Most importantly, it will create a real community asset that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Our vision is to transform the building into a vibrant community hub, providing increased support services, activities, programmes and opportunities for local people. We also look forward to developing community-based sports, health and wellbeing activities, and creating a welcoming space for local groups and organisations to come together.

We would like to thank everyone who has supported us throughout this process. This is just the beginning, and we are excited about what the future holds for our community.
