As we approach World Employee Recognition day this week, I would like to share with you an email I received last night.
Penny (not her real name) is an employee of a large, very well known UK business.
Her extremely difficult personal situation has led to some issues that are having an adverse effect on her life, which in turn, is affecting her mental health.
Throw in the extra stress of higher interest rates and increasing financial pressure, its a wonder she is still able to turn up for work (which she has done every day).
Luckily, her employers approached me over a year ago, as they recognised that their biggest asset on the Balance Sheet (though shown as a P&L expense !) is its team of hard-working and loyal staff.
I have been lucky enough to work with some very large, forward-thinking employers who feel the same, but the truth is, the vast majority of employers simply pay lip-service to its well-being of its people, whether it be mental or financial.
At the same time I met Pennyβs employer, there were 3 other employers who expressed an interest in Employee Benefits, and how it could help, and all 3 stopped replying to my emails after the initial approach, explaining how I can help them FOR FREE !
After initial irritation and disbelief, I have come to the conclusion that most employers do not actually care that much about their people.
So there we are, shots fired !!
I will no doubt receive a barrage of contrary views, so show me I am wrong π
In the meantime, I will carry on chipping away.
