𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 📥 𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗲.

Nine years of running Honey Financial Solutions Ltd, and somehow email management is still the thing I haven't cracked. Between client updates, lender correspondence, and general life admin, it just... piles up.

As part of my Q4 business refresh I'm making a proper effort to get on top of it, once and for all. Not just a one-off clear-out, but actual habits that stick.

𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿, so one of the things I paused was signing back up for the next round of my group PT. It felt like a step backwards at first.

But I haven't stopped. I'm still at the gym three times a week, working on the areas I know need the most attention these days. I'm planning to touch base with my PT soon too, just to make sure I'm doing everything correctly — no point rushing something and undoing all the good work.

My focus now is long-term. Looking after the parts of my body that are starting to show a bit of wear and tear (the joys of being 50+, which I still can't quite get my head around some days 😅). I want my body to stay fit and strong for years to come, not just for the next few weeks.

Self-employed and going through a separation? A couple of things worth knowing: there's often no employer sick pay to fall back on if illness stops you working, and business finances can end up more tangled with household ones than you'd expect. Both are worth untangling and reviewing early.

𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲. Weekends are family time. But everyone had their own plans this weekend, so instead of it feeling like a "day off gone wrong," it made sense to sit down and use it properly.

I put the hours into my Q4 refresh plan for Honey Financial Solutions Ltd - the stuff that's been sat on my to-do list for what felt like ages. Nothing glamorous, just steady, deliberate progress. But by the end of it I'd actually got through things I kept telling myself I "hadn't done again."

Turns out ticking those off did more for my head than another weekend of carrying them around unfinished. I run this business as a mortgage and protection adviser based in South Yorkshire, and if nine years in has taught me anything, it's that you just have to actually sit down and do the work sometimes. 💪

𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲. 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻. 🙈

I've done this a few times now and somehow always end up back in zombie-scrolling mode without even realising it.

This time the thought hit properly — what am I doing wasting my precious time on this earth staring at rubbish? App deleted before I'd even finished the thought.

I can still get on it via my laptop and work phone, but it takes a conscious effort now rather than just habit. My screen time's dropped by an hour a day already. An hour! What was I even doing with that time, and did any of it actually benefit me? Not really.

The mad thing is how easy it is to get sucked into something without ever being conscious of it happening. My brain still automatically reaches for it on my phone out of pure habit, then I catch myself mid-scroll like 🤯 oh, there it is again.

Eyes open, brain engaged. My new question before I open anything now: does this actually benefit me, or someone else?

Anyone else done the delete-reinstall cycle more times than they'd like to admit? 😅

𝗔 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆, 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁-𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 '𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳'.

A client came to me recently, part-way through a separation, worried about 'what if' something happened to her income before things were finalised. We reviewed her protection there and then — during the legal process, not after — and looked at income protection first, since that's usually the priority for single parents rather than life cover alone.

Every situation's different, but reviewing early rather than waiting means you're not caught out. 💛

𝗜 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗖𝗘𝗢 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆. Best decision I've made in weeks.

I'd had one of those niggling reminders the week before — you know the sort, the ones that turn up when you need them, telling me to have a bit more fun. This month's CEO day was earmarked for a trip to York, for a Funnel Sketchers meet-up on Friday. Then my friend called to say she was back in the country, unexpectedly, and those plans changed in an instant. It felt like the universe was underlining the point in red pen. So I didn't hesitate. I still went to York, but the CEO day itself never happened — I spent the day with her instead. Come the evening, I still made it along to Funnel Sketchers for drinks and a meal, and got chatting to other business owners about their ideas and how they're getting the most out of the CRM we all use. Best of both worlds, really.

Running Honey Financial Solutions Ltd as a mortgage and protection adviser here in South Yorkshire, my work and my life sit very close together — that's just how it is when you're self-employed. The two intermingle so easily that it's tempting to keep pushing on, thinking the business will always come first and the people can wait.

I've ignored too many of those signs in the past. And it's come back to bite me hard on the backside more than once.

We can't get time back. The CEO day work will still be there next month. My friend, home unexpectedly after all this time, wouldn't have been.

So the CEO day is rebooked. No harm done. And I got a day with someone who matters, plus a great evening with fellow business owners, that I'll never regret taking. I only have a photo of the lunch we had together — too busy catching up to think about my phone. Says it all, really. 🍯 Someone else supplied the photo of the funnel sketchers gang 😀

🥳 We celebrated with a family meal together, and honestly, I don't know where the years have gone. One minute she's tiny, the next she's a grown woman out there living her life.

So proud of who she's become. Here's to the next chapter! 💛

Myth: once you and your ex agree, you can sort the mortgage straight away. 🚫 Not quite — even with a financial consent order in place, a lender will still independently assess affordability, and a transfer of equity can be refused. My advice is always the same: don't take mortgage action until your solicitor confirms it's the right time.
