Brr! 🥶 With more snow on the cards for some of us this week and continuing cold temperatures, freezing pipes can cause a real headache. Here are a few top tips to help keep your home safe and cosy:

✅ Keep your heating on low, even when you’re out, if you’re able to or set it to come on if the temperature drops below 7°c

✅ Let warm air flow into chilly spots with pipes in your home

✅ Insulate exposed pipes in colder areas like the loft or outside

✅ Know where your stop tap is so you can turn off your water quickly if needed

✅ Know who you can call in case of emergency

Heading away for a few days? Turning your water off before you go helps prevent significant water damage to your home if your pipes burst while you’re away.

Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family and everyone touched by her loss.

Out of respect, we will be observing the bank holiday on 19th September and our offices will be closed.

The MET Office has issued a rare red weather warning this weekend and advised millions to stay home. With flying debris causing significant danger during storms, please stay safe and remember to:

• Secure trampolines to avoid them blowing away.
• Take patio furniture, as well as bins, parasols, gardening tools and other ornaments, inside or secure them in outbuildings.
• Close all sunshades and awnings.

Please be aware that your home insurance policy does not cover the following if damaged in a storm:

• Fences, hedges and gates.
• Flat felt roofs where damage is mainly due to wear and tear or lack of maintenance.
• Awnings, canopies and car ports.
• Any item left outside during the storm.

Happy New Year Sheilas!
If you're staying at home and seeing the new year in with your own fireworks this year, here are some simple steps to help make sure everyone has a good time and stays safe:
Make your preparations in advance, and in daylight
Keep children a safe distance away from fireworks and bonfires
Light fireworks at arm's length with a taper and stand well back (never return to a firework once it has been lit)
Don't put fireworks in pockets and never throw them
Build any bonfire clear of buildings, sheds, fences and hedges
Make sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before going indoors
Always keep a bucket of water or a hosepipe nearby in case of an emergency
