Celebrating International Women's Day!

Today, on the 8th March 2025, we honour and celebrate not just the tremendous women in our team here at Berkshire IFA, but the incredible achievements of women around the world and recognise the ongoing journey toward gender equality.

Let's collectively continue this journey, especially when considering the pensions gap that still exists in the UK. There is a significant gap in the average values at retirement between women and men.

According to the department of Work and Pensions own figures, in 2023 this gap stood at 35%. So, for every £100 in pension savings that men have, women – on average – only have £65.

This must change, so all companies, not just Berkshire IFA, can help this cause by continuing to create a working environment that offers everyone not just women a greater degree of flexibility, high levels of benefits as well as great opportunities.

These efforts can make every company a more attractive place to work. This increase in
flexibility will mean that women especially, can continue to contribute to their pensions for longer, therefore helping to equalise the pension gap that currently exists in the UK.

Together, we can all help create this future, and help every woman and girl have complete equality of opportunity, where gender isn’t a barrier to achievement or outcome.

On the eve of England Rugby’s Six Nations match against Ireland, we wish the team all the best for the men’s six nations game tomorrow at 16.45 in Dublin.

The wider Rugby community is about bringing together coaching and individual skill and talent as one team to deliver a winning outcome… but perhaps more importantly it’s also about creating a positive community of engaged people, bringing Rugby’s influence to as wide an audience a possible, and inspiring future generation to join in.

All of this is something we at Berkshire IFA aspire to and fully support. Winning a game is clearly important but delivering a positive influence and outcome is perhaps even more important than the game on Saturday. Good luck tomorrow, England.

Congratulation to Rams RFC with a 26-17 win over Dings Crusaders RFC. Great effort by the whole team but most especially by Ollie Cole who was man-of-the-match, and Try scorers Tomek Pozniak, Kalling-Smith and Zach Clow who all ran the ball over the Try line.

Berkshire IFA is a huge supporter of Rams RFC, so congratulations to all of the players and coaching team behind this win.

Pension Awareness Day 2024, which is today Monday September 9th 2024, is a yearly event designed to help everyone understand more about pensions and just how important they are in saving for future retirement.

From an individual perspective, once you have a pension the next steps is to decide what to do with it and ensure that it is invested in a manner that's aligned with your own future aspirations and the outcomes that you are hoping for. Financial advice is a key component of this journey. Here at Berkshire IFA, we are committed to increasing the awareness of just how importance it is to have a Pension, but equally the value of receiving financial advice from a qualified individual at an FCA regulated company.

So, in the spirit of Pension Awareness Day 2024 we wish to help increase the access and availability of financial to everyone, by highlighting that we offer a 'no cost to you' financial review, where we can go through your financial situation. 19-13 against Richmond. Reading Rams did really well, with a win in their last home game of the season on Saturday 13th April.

Roll on the 27th April when Rams play Birmingham Moseley away, which will be a fiercely contexted competition if the last few fixtures against Birmingham are anything to go by! Congratulations Rams great Rugby and tremendous spirit last Saturday.

Great win for Reading Rams at home at the weekend. The final score was 28-7 versus Sedgley Park. We are huge Rugby supporters here at Berkshire IFA. Well done Rams!

We are huge supporters of Rugby here at Berkshire IFA, and its been a great season for our local team Reading Rams.

With only two games left this season its all to play for with Rams in pole position, leading the Rugby National League 1 on 104 points and Sale and Cambridge in hot pursuit all with in 5 points of Rams. With Cambridge having a game in hand, its going to be a photo finish all sides needing to win all their remaining games in order to stand a chance of finishing top.

Come on Rams...!

Fascinating day today. The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has made several key changes in his statement today... abolishing the pension lifetime allowance (LTA) and raised the annual allowance for pension contributions to £60,000, is likely to be one of the most significant changes.

Today on International Women’s Day, we would like to take a moment to shine a spotlight on why it’s so important for Women in particular to seek financial advice, in person, from a Financial Planner rather than using one of the plethora of online tools that are available to everyone today.

Women face unique challenges when it comes to managing their income and planning for the future, including life events such as; motherhood, gaps in working life and retirement provision. This is particularly true of divorce, where the consequences can be longer lasting and cause a greater loss of income than they do with men. As a result, specialist advice is needed to take these into account.

Women tend to be less likely to engage in higher risk investment strategies than their male counter parts, leading to lower returns from investments. This is compounded by women's generally longer lifespan.
