ROAD TAX INCREASES FROM APRIL 2025 – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW! 🚨
From April 2025, road tax (Vehicle Excise Duty – VED) is increasing for all drivers -including electric and hybrid car owners.
📢Here’s what you need to know:
🚗 Electric Vehicles (EVs) Will No Longer Be Tax-Free
EVs registered between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2025 will no longer be exempt and must pay £195 per year, just like petrol and diesel cars.
🚗 Plug-in Hybrids & High-Emission Cars Will Cost More
Plug-in hybrids (1-50 g/km CO₂) – First-year tax rises to £110.
High-emission cars (255 g/km+ CO₂) – First-year tax DOUBLES from £2,745 to £5,490.
🚗 Standard Annual Tax & Extra Charges for Expensive Cars
After the first year, all petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric cars will pay £195 per year.
If your car originally cost over £40,000, you’ll pay an extra £425 per year for five years -bringing your total annual road tax to £620.
