What is classed as a modification for my car insurance?

It's important to note that even small modifications can have an impact on your car insurance policy, so it's always best to inform your insurance provider of any changes made to your vehicle. Useful tech:

When an iPhone is running iOS 11 or later, it has a feature called Emergency SOS that can automatically contact emergency services and designated emergency contacts after an accident.

To activate Emergency SOS, you can press and hold the side button and one of the volume buttons on your iPhone. Alternatively, you can quickly press the side button five times in a row. This will bring up an Emergency SOS slider on the screen.

If you slide the Emergency SOS slider to the right, your iPhone will automatically call emergency services in your region. After the call ends, your iPhone will send a message with your location to your emergency contacts, letting them know that you made an emergency call and providing your current location.

You can set up your emergency contacts in the Health app on your iPhone. To do this, open the Health app, tap your profile picture in the top right corner, then tap "Medical ID." From there, tap "Edit" and scroll down to the Emergency Contacts section. You can add up to three emergency contacts, and these contacts will be notified via text message after an Emergency SOS call is made.

5 - Toyota Aygo
Pros:
✅ Typically Toyota reliable
✅ Inexpensive to run, good to drive
Cons:
❌ Small boot and rear seats
❌ A bit lost on the motorway

Toyota’s tiny city car is a great bet if you’re looking for inexpensive, reliable motoring and don’t need much space. As with the mechanically similar Peugeot 107, average repair costs are impressively low, while it also benefits from cheap insurance and running costs.

8 - Suzuki Alto
Pros:
✅ Cheaper than walking
✅ Surprisingly fun
Cons:
❌ Not one for the motorway
❌ Getting on a bit now

It might have been off sale in the new car market since 2014, but the reliability of the pint-sized Alto remains undimmed all these years on. It’s a great example of a likeable, indecently cheap-to-run car that’s also fun to drive. Best of all, there’s ample used car choice for less than £2,000 these days. Overlook it at your peril.

10 - Peugeot 107
Pros:
✅ Great score for small French hatch
✅ Cheap to run, great to drive
Cons:
❌ In reality, it’s a two-seater
❌ It has a lower score than the Toyota Aygo

Very reliable and cheap car, this. Average repair prices are low, as are running costs and insurance premiums. Worth noting that this is mechanically nearly identical to the Toyota Aygo on this list. So if you can’t find a good Aygo near you, the 107 is a solid alternative.
