Are you on track for the retirement you actually want?

Having a pension is one thing. Understanding what it might actually allow you to do in retirement is another.

When thinking about retirement, I think there are three really useful questions to consider:

1. When would you like to retire?

There can be a big difference between planning to finish work at 55, 60 or 67.

The earlier you retire, the longer your savings and pensions may need to last, and there may also be a period before other income, such as the State Pension, becomes available.

2. What do you want retirement to look like?

For some, retirement might mean travelling more. For others, it could be eating out, playing more golf, helping children or grandchildren, or simply having the freedom to enjoy life without worrying about work.

There isn’t one figure that represents a “good retirement”. What matters is what you want yours to look like and what that lifestyle might cost.

3. Where will your income come from?

It might be a combination of workplace and personal pensions, the State Pension, ISAs, savings, investments or other assets.

Looking at everything together can give a much clearer picture than simply looking at the value of one pension pot.

Ultimately, retirement planning isn’t just about building the biggest number possible.

It’s about understanding whether the money you’re building today could support the life you want tomorrow.

The value of investments can fall as well as rise and you may get back less than you invest. Tax and pension rules can change and individual circumstances vary.

First full week back after a brilliant family holiday ☀️

It’s been good to get back into the swing of things, catching up with clients and getting stuck into a busy few months ahead.

A holiday is always a good chance to properly switch off, spend time with the family and come back feeling refreshed.

Batteries recharged. Back to it!

We had a lovely day out at Newport Show over the weekend after being invited as guests by MFG Solicitors, who were sponsoring the event.

It was great to spend the day catching up with family and friends, enjoying the atmosphere, and seeing everything the show had to offer.

Staycation or holiday abroad? ☀️🌍

Whether you’re exploring somewhere new in the UK or jumping on a plane, there is something special about having a holiday to look forward to.

For some people, it is the result of months of saving. For others, it is simply part of a plan that makes room for enjoying life along the way.

It is a good reminder that managing money is not just about building wealth for the future. It is also about making memories, spending time with the people who matter most, and enjoying the journey.

The best financial plans are not built around saying no. They are built around making space for the things that matter today while still keeping one eye on tomorrow.
